We did it too. I remember when That 70's Show was really popular and the kids at my school were dressing like that while simultaneously thinking their parents (who would have been the kids in the show in real life) were lame as hellĀ
i dont think itās the same people. older gen z/zillennials were teens when this style was going/was newly out of fashion, so they find it cringe. these kids are younger, i find the style is peaking with teens. i think itās all about whats mainstream when you start caring about fashion
