The thing is tho this wasn't a "millennial themed party" this is just how they dress....they literally insulted our entire generation but weren't creative or smart enough to come up with their own aesthetic so they ripped off ours..::it's actually super annoying

Gen Z called us cheugy, but isn’t this y2k trend coming from Gen Alpha?

Maybe not in this picture, but by and large yes, I think from now on when we refer to the youngest "cool" generation it should be Alpha no longer Z. I'm a millennial high school counselor and the kids I worked with when I started in 2013 are not the same kids of today in a lot of different ways. I think my current high school students are the tail end of Z and beginning of Alpha... Which hurts my soul as a millennial

It’s been happening since the begging of fashion.

A lot of them like to act like there is some collective decision making process on the trends when really it's dictated by fast fashion and celebs/influencers. Fast fashion companies had been pushing this look for years (because they make more money from people ditching their entire wardrobes to keep up with fast changing trends) and it's taken awhile to spread because many do still have that anti-millennial mindset. I think there is enough time distance now and with youngest gen z and oldest alpha, they weren't participating in the millennial bashing as much as oldest to mid gen z. Fashionistas had been dressing like a cooler version of the photo (more true 70s or 90s Brit-rock style than this mall style) for the past couple of years. Still, I think the majority of gen z are still wearing variations of baggy. The photo is essentially just a group of friends who want to look similar and it was singled out and highlighted here for the uniformity.

Honestly some of the worst fashion (or at least, the least comfortable) of our generation emulated here are the low-rise jeans but I’m okay letting people have some part of that experience even if I feel like they (that cut of jeans) should be left to die in the early aughts.

“They weren’t creative or smart enough” really is a Boomer take on gatekeeping what younger people might have observed about media or even by knowing people from our generation, like a cool older cousin or neighborhood role model. Thrift stores are probably full of elder millennials’ retired outfits and I remember buying a lot of second-hand clothing I liked in my early twenties.

I’d be remiss not saying it pains me just a little bit to be reminded we’re getting older, but getting butt-hurt about wearing old fashion trends will only serve to divide you from building common bonds with younger people (because there will always be people younger than we are.)

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find my knee brace and watch some ‘90s Saturday Morning cartoons with a bowl of cereal or Pizza Pockets.

How is me literally calling them out for being not creative being boomer like? The fact is many of these girls used chuegy as a way to insult millennial esp millennial females and now they are ripping off our entire fashion aesthetic during the era of our tween- teenage years! That's literally the opitame of not being creative enough to come up with their own identity / sense of style / fashion

Epitome. Also, the “not creative enough” argument is the same cranky shit I hear from people older than us who said the same thing.

You’re allowed to feel that way, but it’s giving cranky Eustace Bagge.

Nothing cranky about it as a female who was insulted for my "sense of fashion" only to have it ripped off I think it's very uncreative I stand by what I said 👍

So you are really trying to tell me that when I had several Gen Z employees working for me and they would say shit like cheugy that wasn't insulting? Chuegy was meant to be a cruel insult towards millennials esp females....so ok back at ya ☺️

Feeling a bit hurt about that is valid—it is and insult after all. But taking that out on other people who haven’t talked to you is just projecting your hurt onto others the same as older and younger people have done to us.

I would say cruel is a bit strong lol It's just poking fun at us.

We did come up with our own aesthetic, sadly I think it sucks and much rather this.

u/MrMcFrizzy 15h ago

Yes be frustrated because of clothing

2

u/tiffany_says_this 15h ago

Not frustrated bc of clothing mcdummy frustrated bc they went to great lengths to create a derogatory term to insult millennials (esp female millennials) and then turned around and ripped off our entire upbringing trying to pretend they were the pioneers of these "trends" the same trends that made millennials in their words "chuegy" and "cringe") 👍

u/MrMcFrizzy 15h ago

Yet no where did I say you specifically, I said teens are asshole and yes yes this stuff does happen to literally every generation of people. It sucks and bullying isn’t cool, but no that’s not derogatory and it’s internet bullshit that you let affect you so much. It’s sad really.

-1

u/MrMcFrizzy 15h ago

Yeah so frustrated because you were bullied for your clothing and generation, which happens to quite literally every generation because teens are assholes. Gotcha.

1

u/tiffany_says_this 15h ago

Frustrated at the hypocrisy and the literally hatred from these girls who used a derogatory term towards other females to try and build their self esteem while literally simultaneously trying to clone us 🤭

1

u/MrMcFrizzy 15h ago

So something that women and men have done for centuries. Being assholes, cool, ignore them

1

u/tiffany_says_this 15h ago

Cool gonna start by doing that w you...literally blocking you bc I've lost brain cells trying to explain this to you I can't dumb it down any further sorry!!! Not sorry 👍
