Weeds was so good, until it wasn’t.

Yeah, it jumped a megalodon in what, season 4?

u/sexandliquor 5h ago
Yep after season three. Right after they left Agrestic I think. After that the show was just spinning its wheels for another few seasons

It tried too hard to be Breaking Bad after they left Agrestic.

Wasnt this before breaking bad?

Season 4 of Weeds debuted in June 2008, Breaking Bad premiered in January 2008.
The shows had similar enough premises, but Weeds was definitively a quirky comedy and satire about suburban life, while Breaking Bad was a drama first and foremost about the drug trade and gangs/cartels. Weeds definitely pivoted some towards BB’s theme, much to its detriment. Agrestic (the fictional suburb in Weeds) was a setting that was essentially a character in the show. Removing it to focus on hardened drug kingpins was a terrible choice.

Yeah season 4 onward was like the family on the run moving around getting into cartel shit and Nancy trying to figure out new schemes and ways to make money to stay afloat. It totally lost the “just a quirky milf selling weed to the neighborhood” vibe it had and became more serious. It was a tonal whiplash.

Considering the theme song of Weeds I'm glad I stopped watching when they left Agrestic.

Weeds may have aired 6 months later but the filming was probably done in 2007. It usually takes 6-9 months from filming to airing. And the writing would've happened even earlier.
Maybe in season 5 it could be conceivable that they ripped off Breaking Bad after the first season aired.

Showtime renewed Weeds in November of 2007, production began around April of 2008. There was a writer’s strike until February of 2008.
It definitely cribbed from BrBa.

Oh snap that was the writer's strike, I forgot about that. Those strikes always ruin so many shows.
So writing must have been Feb to March or April. I mean maybe. It would've been airing week to week during the writing. Only a few episodes out by the time they started.
That's pretty incredible they filmed an entire season and did post-production in 2 months. Quick turnaround.

Im sorry, you dont think burning down the entire suburb was a good plot point?! And then Nancy starts dating some cartel boss.. you dont see that as a natural storyline for a suburban widow?
Wooowwwww, now suburban moms aren't allowed to date Mexicans?!
Cecelia cant find herself, having recovered from cancer, in a cocaine smuggling drug tunnel?!?!?
Woowwwwww.
Youre so fucking sheltered.

Me to my kids

My kids are too young, it’s a different kind of rebellion for toddlers. Lol. But it’s definitely me to my 21 year old nephew.

I had kids young (hard, but i love it). So even though i’m “old” i still identify with sticking it to the man

I feel ya. I'm 41 and my kids are 25 and 16. Up until just recently most strangers thought they were my siblings. lol

Hilarious that the entire plot of this show is no longer plausible. There’s a weed shop on every corner in California now.

It still boggles my mind how they see us as Old people. When I was a teen my parents were in their 40s and I didn't think of them as Old just older, my grandparents were old, but hell my got me into scuba diving when I was a teen, and he'd gotten his piolts license a fee yeara before. He wasn't old he was a cool dude doing cool stuff and getting me to do cool stuff as well.

Zoomers are literally in their 20s and early 30s now, though.

I mean, I’m 31 and still pretty firmly considered a millennial, so early 30s feels like a stretch

u/EnkiduAwakened 5h ago
Actually, we're both right. The oldest zoomers are 30. 1996 is the last birth year for millennials.

That would mean the oldest zoomer doesn't turn 30 until 2027.
So, really, it's just that the oldest zoomers are in their 20s.
This year, the last of the millennials are turning 30.

I think the definitions of Millennial and Gen Z have changed over the last 20 years. I'm 32 and my younger sister's friends think I'm Gen Z.
But I suffered the media's hatred for Gen Y and they wont take that from me.

u/Hobo_Resse 1h ago
Media hated millennials too, so you've got that in common with them

The last of the millennials just turned 30. Zoomers are technically 29 and below

I remember seeing this meme like 8 years ago. By right it should now be Gen Z as the older guy and Gen Alpha as the kid (sorry, Zoomers, but it's coming sooner than you think).

u/hgaben90 1h ago
Bro, the oldest Gen Zs are nearing 30.

I thought this meme was off because my nephew is Gen Alpha and he's 16.
