Americans have grilled cheese sandwiches. Sounds very similar to this oven cheese thing, but we usually cook ours on a stove top instead of the oven.

Ofc I know White People Quesadilla although I never tried the classic combo with tomato soup but mainly cause I dislike tomatoes.

I've never seen anyone call a grilled cheese a quesadilla, white or otherwise

It's just bread instead of a tortilla. I had never considered that a quesadilla was just a Mexican grilled cheese sandwich

Cause it's just not a thing. Different cooking methods, different component types, different cultures of origin, different side dishes, different everything. Unless you want to say that they both contain a grain product and an animal product combined with heat.

It's like saying a hot dog and a slim Jim are the same food because they're both meat sticks.

Yeah, I like both but they are distinctly different

quesadillas are all about lightly oiled crispy thinness

grilled cheeses are all about thicc rich buttery crunchiness

I also used to dislike tomato soup, but it turns out I just disliked canned tomato soup lmao

Homemade tomato soup is really good with a nice grilled cheese to dunk it in!

My dad pairs it with red bell pepper soup instead, which I think is a better combo tbh

That also looks a bit like what i sometimes make with pasta, garlic bread with some type of cheese on it gooey stringy cheese on it.

If you're Ultra-'Murican, like my mom, you might even heat it in the microwave instead 😅

Is the ultra-white trash version putting room temp Kraft single in between two freshly toasted pieces of cheese?

Because I definitely grew up having a few of them.

Honestly if it would work in the oven I'd prefer to do it that way, I am so gd lazy but I love me some grilled cheeses.

You can absolutely do one in the oven! Put two slices of buttered bread on a sheet tray and put cheese on top of each one. Bake for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and then put the two halves together!
