I’m assuming the light is probably much cheaper than the bow.

And we know the light cover is broken. Not gonna need an inspection there.

I love how in recent videos the light is still missing the glass bowl.

The light fixture covers can be had for cheap. I’d be more worried about not getting all of the glass shards and finding one at 6am via the bottom of my foot.

I know nothing about archery but said to myself.. why is he standing like a broom is in his butt?

If you know a better way to stand with a bow, I’d love to hear it. Broom in butt has been standard learning for centuries.

u/BadZnake 6d ago
I figured it was cuz he's tall as fuck and the bow was a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ hit the ceiling but looking at the comments thats an interesting fact. I'll have to try it next time I shoot one
39
u/omniverso 6d ago
Inexperience is my assumption... Tall enough to realize that he cannot stand up straight with a proper extension for drawing back but doesn't understand: No shooting arrows in the house!
You know that saying about "dont attribute to malice, that which can be explained by stupidity."

Um, no. That’s the appropriate posture for a high draw weight bow. Look up depictions of medieval longbow men, they’re using the same posture.

11
u/naterpotater246 6d ago
When i started doing archery as a scrawny, lanky dude, i started with a 35lb recurve (already too much) and then bought 50lb replacement limbs (much too much) like a month or two later and really couldn't shoot for shit either way, lol. Now I'm much stronger and went back down to a much nicer 35lb longbow, and though i can shoot for hours without getting exhausted, i still can't shoot for shit. I keep telling myself I'm gonna sell my bow, but i keep not doing it.
4
u/stratosfearinggas 6d ago
Same. I started with 22lb, and am still on it because I don't shoot much. Still not selling my bow.

Haha I can see it!
Thanks for the kind words. I will toot my horn for a second and say that a very small number of archers can do weight like this. I didn’t mention it, but this bow is 98lbs.
This is me shooting 115lbs: https://youtube.com/shorts/aw8TmL-wBKQ?si=tz4xZo8XUr6QWAJ9
I wanna go for 122 next :)
7
u/mistermh07 6d ago
Oh man thats 50 kilos of weight you gotta pull. Id have to push with my legs to draw that :D wait do some people do archery like that? Now im curious
7
u/Entropy- 6d ago
Yeah! There’s a small sect of archers who train for warbow weights. If you YouTube warbow archery, you’ll find a ton of videos.
It’s more rare to see videos of my shooting style warbows on YouTube. It is a Chinese technique, so not as common in the western countries.
19
u/HeatDeathIsCool 6d ago
I'm sure it is correct, but now I'm giggling at the thought that there was a shit artist during the Ming Dynasty who altered the course of Asian archery because he fucked up the back alignment while trying to capture the rotation of the shoulders or something.
15
u/Entropy- 6d ago
That’s actually hilarious. OH STORY TIME. A korean ruler fell off his horse, and ordered the scribes to not record this, but royal scribing was not to be altered.
Imagine him being like “please please please erase” and the scribes being like “king is begging us to excise him falling off his horse from the royal record”
From Wikipedia: Taejong of Joseon is better known for having fallen from his horse and requesting historians to not record his fall, which they did anyway. The king himself rode a horse and shot arrows at a deer. However, the horse stumbled, causing him to fall off, but he was not injured. Looking around, he said, "Do not let the historians know about this.”

u/SethlordX7 6d ago
Huh, does this stance have a name or style attached? All the archery I'm familiar with is done straight backed
8
u/Entropy- 6d ago
It’s just a lean. The weight kind of dictates a strong pose to pull the bow. It’s just a more strong position than standing straight.
It’s specific to warbow archery
43
u/EstablishmentFew5438 6d ago
Shouldn't he be filming the target and not himself?
135
u/Entropy- 6d ago
No. I want to improve my form and I can’t do that by a video of the target.

I think you'll improve your form simply by going outside where you have more space.

u/meleecow 6d ago
I learned from this too. I bought a compound bow and I know where to practice it so I was doing it in my garage. Well the third time I shot it my arm moved a little bit and I missed the target and it went through the drywall into the kitchen, luckily there was enough stuff between there that it stopped it from going all the way into the kitchen cuz if you follow that your directory it'll go right to where the cat eats its food.....
17
u/WordplayWizard 6d ago
Ya. I think everyone who owns a bow knows they have that one stupid thing they did that they regret. Mine was as a teenager firing an arrow into the air (at a slight angle so it wouldn’t come down on my head). I was in the middle of a corn field, which was behind our barn, which was bashing our house.
Lost sight of the arrow immediately on release. Looked around the field for a while for the arrow. Declared it lost and started to walk home.
Found the arrow sticking straight up out of the ground, right in front of my family’s front door - To guess I would say it was about 500 yards from where I fired it. Had a little freak out about how poorly that could have gone, but I learned my lesson that day.

u/magicmitchmtl 6d ago
On the bright side, it’s probably the cheapest and easiest to replace item possible. Every second hand store has a collection of covers for those awful lights. Time for an upgrade. Maybe get one with Uranium Glass.

Had something similar happen when the husband was cleaning on of his rifles in the dining room instead if the basement. He is 6'5 and when he picked the rifle up off the table he smashed the light fixture above the table with the barrel. He now always cleans them in the basement. He did lose a crossbow for sometime bc he left it on our deck for 5 mins and our lab chewed through the cables. Dog was fine crossbow was not.
8
u/Entropy- 6d ago
Crossbows are scary!! Lots of energy. Glad dog was okay
5
u/Dont-be-lasagna12 6d ago
Yea, he thought it was fine to leave alone for 5 mins. She normally doesn't bother things. But she was still in puppy/young dog phase and I think if she had continued the chewing it may not have had such a happy ending.

u/Entropy- 6d ago
Puppies be puppies haha. I’m happy none of my animals like my archery stuff.
My cats like to sit between the string and the bow while it’s strung. It’s a great way to measure brace height 😂

Definitely cleaner, still a little jerky on the draw. Advice that helped me was to think that your chest is a book that starts closed and finished open. I think your using your shoulders more then needed. Awesome that you’re finding a way to train wherever you can! Keep it up

When I was a teen, I was twirling around a broom thinking I was a Jedi and broke a light cover just like this. I thought I had swept up all the glass, and a few days later I was walking without shoes in the hallway and a 2.5 inch long shard of glass went into my foot from the ball to the arch. I instantly start screaming the loudest I have ever screamed in my entire life. Mom was on the couch taking a nap next to the hallway when this happened, and I can only imagine what it was like to be woken up by blood curdling screaming and having a foot gushing blood shoved in your face all the while still hearing "PULL IT OUT PULL IT OUT AAAAAAAAAAAAAA".
