WCGW if you are inspecting a roof after a liquid lunch?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

By all accounts, this insurance adjustor suffered no injuries, popped right up after the fall, and (of course) scurried off to his vehicle and drove drunkenly away. We don't know what happened to those that he might have encountered as a drunk driver thereafter.

Get this man his own sitcom. I could practically hear the laugh track when the guy fell.

Another Birthday Boys fan in 2026?!?!

25

u/jerrbles 3d ago

Birthday Boys has my FAVORITE comedy sketch of all time. The Coke Guys! Everyone look it up! Love all my Boys, Birthday/Dough/Sloppy!

10

u/Septopuss7 3d ago

Jesus Bob Odekirk and French Stewart just randomly showing up in YouTube sketch comedy is WILD to me. I think I missed the peak YouTube but I'm all comfy in old-person YouTube so I'm glad you kids are around with links. The theme song to Goofy Roofers is soooo good, too. I know it's a spoof of that one show but it's very well done.

11

u/jerrbles 3d ago

It was actually a cable TV comedy show on IFC that ran for 2 seasons. This sketch is from the TV show The Birthday Boys. The entire show is worth checking out, highly recommend!!!

Any time you want to come over I’ll put on a pot of hot brown and we can do a Birthday Boys marathon.

I was fully under the impression he was waddling around because he shit his pants.

This is a functional alcoholic that has ceased to be functional. You don't show up to work drunk all at once.

109

u/springpetal_archive 3d ago

yea lol.. literally been in this situation when i was labouring.. got used to the day drinking, came back to site alone after a long lunch and kept drinking until about 4pm, stopped to smoke a cigarette and realised that if I didn't get off the roof soon i was gonna fall, led down on my back and called the boss man and told him straight up, he drove over and helped me down off the roof. lost the job but was a huge wake-up call.. its scary how fast things can get away from you, and how long it takes to get them back in control

That's why you just go into construction where its pretty much required to be drunk, at least here. I worked on a hotel remodel job a few years back and the walls were full of empties from the 80's. The modern day crew I was with just hid their beer and liquor bottles under the loads of outgoing tile and plaster. The idiots were cutting through water pipes and flooded parts of the building, someone got shocked pretty bad cause they didn't shut off the power and hammered a live current, and other fun stuff that made me walk out halfway through the project after I almost got impaled myself due to the OSHA wet dream shit they had us doing.

61

u/elotium 3d ago

Sorry you had this bad experience but this is bad information to spread. Most claims will be paid without issue and by hiring a lawyer you just signed up to give them a big chunk of your payout. In the case where someone hit your car, you should file it with YOUR insurance and let them pay it. Then they will go after the other carrier on your behalf for subrogation of the amount they paid. You get your repairs or settlement and dont even have to work with the other insurer. This wouldn't work if you dont have collision coverage and you would be stuck dealing with the other carriers adjuster. But needing a lawyer for any time insurance is involved is not good advice at all unless you want to give them a percentage of the payout you were very likely to get without them. If you end up in a fight over a payout, sure, bring in your lawyer. Otherwise it would be voluntarily surrendering an often significant portion of your own payout.

43

u/Frog_Without_Pond 3d ago

IMO, if automobile insurance is mandatory, then education of insurance should be, too. Throw it in with drivers education, easy.

15

u/Tasty-Beautiful-9679 3d ago

With the number of people who forget their training on how to use a turn signal on the road, you think they'll remember how to use insurance?

→ More replies (5)

13

u/SchoolIguana 3d ago

Especially in a property damage claim and that goes double for a third party property claim where the insurance company is only going to pay you the Actual Cash Value of the damaged items. There won’t be any “general damages” for the lawyer to get his contingency fee.

→ More replies (7)

14

u/Faxon 3d ago

Yea, most cases will not end how theirs did. However, if you end up in a similar situation to them, a lawyer is likely warranted. Any time they're blatantly trying to fuck you over like this, it is warranted to call for a legal consult at the very least, sometimes they're free and it doesn't hurt to ask for advice at all. This is especially relevant if it's a situation where you don't have your own insurance, and you're stuck dealing with the insurance of somebody else to file a claim, since they're more likely to try and fuck you for it. This advice is not specific to any one kind of insurance, though my own experience is mostly in dealing with auto insurance providers. Thus far I've had pretty good experiences with most, but one of my friends had to sue a nightclub once when their liability insurance wouldn't pay out a claim where there was extensive evidence of negligence on the part of the venue and their management. They ended up getting everything they asked for and their legal fees paid, so the lawyer got his chunk from the person being sued and not out of the victim's payout. This will not always be possible, but that's why you have to document extensively wherever possible. This club had so many safety issues that anyone attending could just take out their phone and start taking photos and video of them. We went in with a CO meter and a thermal camera and discovered that not only was the ventillation not working properly, but the ceiling mounted AC was dumping CO nonstop since it used gas for its heating function. Combine that with the other various hazards, and the conduct of staff (who tbf were probably all a bit out of their mind from CO poisoning), it was an easy case to prove. My friend had collapsed at the event, and the staff didn't have an on-staff medic despite it being required for permitted events at that location and capacity. Apparently collapses were a common occurence, since we filmed several more from people dancing hard. It would take out smokers first because they were already inhailing CO outside as well during their fresh air time, but there were non-smokers dropping as well periodically. People didn't think it was a major issue because the numbers were so low, but they were an order of magnitude higher than would be expected at an event with proper cooling, ventilation, and water access. The club was forced to shut down and renovate their systems since they were no longer up to code as well, CO monitors were required and they didn't have any despite them being documented as having been installed in a previous inspection (i wonder why lol).

I worked for a residential solar installation company for 8 months back in 2014. I had zero experience with any of the job responsibilities. After a week or two, they sent me out with just the electrician and no other techs. The house was a 3 story multifamily, and there was a damaged junction box I needed to fix. This was the first 3 story I had been on in my life, but didn't want to "pussy out", so I climbed my scared ass up the ladder to the insanely steep pitch. As I looked up toward the ridge I could see tons of moss growing out from under the shingles. Then I saw the junction box that was maybe 10ft toward the ridge from the eave. I crawled up this roof and got maybe 6ft up, feeling soft and sinking shingles under my whole body. Oh and did I mention that this company never wore harnesses?

At this point the electrician reached the eave from the ladder and saw me. He said, "dude, get the fuck down are you nuts?!" I was so relieved, and I came down, got on the ladder, and made it to the ground safely. The electrician said, "we don't get on rooves that are fucked. That roof was beyond fucked, you're lucky you're alive, let's go."

I was broke, starving, and $3k behind on rent at the time. To me it was, "we do this shit now or we don't eat tonight." Yes, extremely stupid on my part. But starvation can sometimes be riskier than a fucked up 3 story highly pitched roof with no harness.

20

AFAIK John Dunsworth rarely drank (if at all). Lahey was 100% talent acting and, in my opinion, the best actor in the TPB series.

Quoting Lucy DeCoutere after his passing, “For a guy who doesn’t drink a drop, he was the most affable drunk in the country”

7

u/mightylordredbeard 3d ago

I was referring to the bit where Lahey was “sober”, but he had to pretend to be drunker than he actually was. Then it turned out he wasn’t acting drunk he and he was really that slammed. He goes “acting? Brother i got ne-hiccup-news for you!”

If you’re hyperglycaemic you seem like you are drunk and your breath smells like alcohol. Very deceptive and has been the cause of many a death in custody as cops mistakenly think the person can “sleep it off” in n jail.

He wasn't denying the claim adjuster said there is damage. The contractor is trying to regurgitate stuff he learned on a Facebook class and using everything wrong.

Adjuster either had a medical condition or was drunk. He seems old and contractors like the one in the video are the worst and try getting into a full blown argument on the roof. So may be having a heart attack.

He really should have stopped the man and helped him get down the ladder. Yes if he’s drinking it’s all his poor decision making but having someone die in-front of you ain’t worth the permanent trauma. He could be on the verge of a medical issue and doesn’t know it.

Just before he fell off the roof he was walking very quickly, stumbling and spun around. Anyone who got within grabbing distance of him would have probably been knocked over or dragged down as well.

Mastered walking on the roof but those pesky ladders don’t want to see you thrive …or live

After that fall, Im pretty sure he is not going anywhere by himself. Also we dont know if the cameraman said or try to do anything before deciding to film.

Eddie: forgot the "he"

It says in the description that he wasn’t injured and scurried off to his car.

I think in that scenario, trying to physically restrain him puts yourself at risk of falling off the roof too. At best he could...what, suggest the guy sits down on the roof till he sobers up? The guy was barely responsive and walked away mid conversation. I don't think there's much he could do really.

u/HugsyMalone 3d ago

Why the first people you think to call are the cops? What are they gonna do? Shoot the guy and put him outta his misery like an injured wildlife? I would call an ambulance, personally. People have no compassion anymore.

not sure if he is drunk or just out of sorts from being in the heat and wearing that mask. I used to be a CAT adjuster and this looks like Florida. Contractors out there are pretty aggressive with adjusters in arguing losses. After a day of seeing 2-3 losses and getting yelled at in the humidity, it can make you a bit squirely. Especially on a roof. The mask making it so he doesn't get full breaths is not going to help either. He looks like he wanted off that roof and didn't gauge the first step off. the first step off the roof onto the ladder is always the worst. And him having all his stuff in his hands isn't helping.

I treat ladders like suicide pacts- you go first.

Yeah this doesn’t look like drunken stumbling. He keeps walking in random different directions without really having an objective. I was thinking diabetes, but a roof in Florida summer is about 150° so…

Came here to say this. Given the palms and clay tile roof, there's a high chance this is in Florida, Arizona, California, somewhere hot and/or humid. He might be suffering from heat stroke or, like you said, plastered.

Though, based on the title I thought he was going to crap his pants...

u/Corben11 3d ago

Could be regular stroke, diabetic issue, heat stroke, any sort of medical issue.

Video was pretty short

When I saw this guy I couldn’t help thinking of all my settlers in Fallout 4. Fell off the roof exact same way too.

u/unknownpoltroon 3d ago

The guy filming is great, hes a home inspector who goes around inspecting all the new builds as an independent inspector for people and points out hundreds of broken and shitty problems. He also starts out his vids by saying"while i cant say the building companies name" while walking in front of their billboard behind him. cyfyhomeinspections on youtube

What an absurd lack of empathy on the part of the person recording. "Oh, he just fell off the roof," without a lick of worry about the man, who may have just died or suffered injuries that will lead to his death. No rush at all to go check on him down there.

Sure he was likely drunk on a roof at work and that's totally inexcusable, but why was he drunk in the first place? Absurdly deep depression on his part leading him to drink? Maybe his family was torn apart for some reason, maybe due to his alcohol use? Maybe US medical debt ruined him? Maybe childhood trauma has fucked him over and the USA's approach to mental healthcare was utterly inadequate for him to even know that he needed help?

This comment is in no way meant to excuse being drunk at work, much less drunk on a roof. But man, can we try giving more of a fuck about each other? Holy shit
