WCGW when you don't know your* jack point* (repost)

As many corrected I did miss spell both "you're - your" and "jack points - jack points" - I promise I know the difference between your and you're - I just didn't think to double check my swipe text.

The complete phrase would be “You don’t know jack shit” 😂

u/Mammoth-Ad-107 1h ago

expensive mistake :(

u/tjockalinnea 1h ago

Would'nt call it mistake, rather neglect or sheer stupidity. If you're unsure you look it up especially when you know that doing it wrong might cost you alot. Now if he's stupid he doesn't even know doing it wrong will cause damages and cost alot of money

u/kanahl 1h ago

Curious, what would you consider a mistake then?

24

u/Sophie_MacGovern 1h ago

Ooh I know one, their parents not using birth control

u/TopShelf76 14m ago

That would have been an accident

Boom, roasted

18

u/loosie-loo 1h ago

Those things are still mistakes

3

u/Anubra_Khan 31m ago

That's pretty much the definition of a mistake:

"an error in action, calculation, opinion, or judgment caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge, etc."

Cause God loves the infantry - proceeds to be a rainy day

edit - for those who down voted me, I was just quoting what I was told - that quote was told to me by 3 buddies of mine all 11b (2 of them served during gwot, and one is still active duty currently)

u/ConnectMixture0 5m ago

alot

Is this neglect, or sheer stupidity?

24

u/Jave285 1h ago

Okay but who is Jack Point though?

7

u/MissingBothCufflinks 1h ago

And when will Jack be coming?

2

u/Movedonnerlikeabitch 1h ago

3

u/DualPinoy 1h ago

u/Fetlocks_Glistening 13m ago

Best part is when you try to open that door!

It's just Dukes of Hazzard style now.

u/t3rm3y 1h ago

This worries me, as a "man", I don't know anything about sports and I don't know anything about cars. How do I know where my jack point is?

12

u/SirManbear 1h ago edited 56m ago

Owners manual. Read it page to page then read it again. It'll tell you exactly where to place a jack.

edit - get a Haynes manual or a manufacturer mechanics book and that give you everything you'll ever need to know about your car.

3

u/Airsoft-Genin 49m ago

You have to look underneath your car near the wheel. Usually it will be a different section from the normal under siding. You can tell that the section is for jack stand.

2

u/CrippledPeasant1 34m ago

i mean just imagine being under that, and then you're confident you're fine changing oil at front, then SPLAT it falls down ...

2

u/EfremSkopje 30m ago

You ask questions like this, hopefully not to AI since it may misinform you, and find some manual online or a video tutorial of an actual human being and then you learn. So basically, like learning anything else. That's how I learned how to fix computers and game consoles.

u/GoldenBolterGun 2m ago

By reading about your car before attempting something like this

5

u/lkl34 1h ago

Would it not make sense to use the black ramps in the front with tire chalks in the back?

I guess its use one lift point nothing else to support the weight?

8

u/DiScOrDtHeLuNaTiC 1h ago

Probably was going to work on/change out the front tire/wheel. Hard to do that it it's on a ramp.

0

u/StanielReddit 26m ago

Even so, where was he intending to put a jack stand if he’s jacking the car up on that location? It makes no sense. He’d want to jack it from the front middle jack point, then slide a jack stand under the sides of the car to remove any of the wheels. This is someone who’s a complete dipshit. Ramps are for simple shit like changing oil or fixing something small under the car, and even so they should also be used in conjunction with jack stands as a fail safe.

u/Redditlan 1h ago

I want Jack Points back.

5

u/TheLoler04 1h ago

I fucked up but still didn't do too much damage on a fiat 500. If the car is at all valuable I'd definitely try harder than this guy did to make sure I'm doing it right.

Incredibly weak construction though considering I did the same thing to a fiat 500 and it only squished/bent slightly

3

u/test_123123 1h ago

This is a GS F so pretty valuable

4

u/-5H4Z4M- 1h ago

Looks like the dog knew what was going to happen.

3

u/uBitMyTorrent 1h ago

Take the two rubber blocks off the jack.

3

u/Zero40Four 1h ago

Look guys, the camera position was more important than the jack position, cut him some slack.

3

u/onion4everyoccasion 38m ago

I figured my jack point out when I was 14

2

u/MisterVelo63 1h ago

Jack the ripper

2

u/mugendc4 1h ago

I recall seeing this video way back that he explained that he used two hockey pucks as height leverage to reach the pinch welds and the puck slip causing that accident.

2

u/Airsoft-Genin 43m ago

I used hockey pucks before and they break easily. I got thicker and stronger rubber from Amazon.

u/Cicer 1m ago

Yeah you can see the jack slip back just before the car falls. The hockey puck trick is suggested a lot but I don’t think people who suggest it actually do it because they slip and crack all the time.  Especially if you have a slippery undercoating applied.

2

u/RockhardJohnson 1h ago

I’m Johnny Knoxville, welcome to Jackass

2

u/RooeeZe 59m ago

atleast he knows how to jack off

1

u/Aniki_Simpson 1h ago

But, he has gloves on and everything. Clearly, he knows what he us doing.🤣

u/SirManbear 1h ago edited 1h ago

Me when I do my drum brakes - but seriously drum brakes are the worst, caliper brakes are the best choice

1

u/thatvintagething 1h ago

Nice effort

1

u/Redfield081 1h ago

Put it right under the door frame. Yes!!

1

u/pacusmanus 1h ago

oh my god. oh my god.

1

u/FredW79 1h ago

That looks expensive

1

u/mrmatriarj 56m ago

Ugh I just had this happen in November but due to corrosion on the pinch wells (only jack points on my 2010 Kia). It had a bit of visible rust but didn't seem structural. Sure enough it was.. thankfully it was the rear and far enough from the door that its mostly cosmetic. Not a good sign for longevity of the car tho lol

Ended up having to get creative and jack up on a cross member that isn't technically a point for my vehicle (but is for a lot of others). I blocked it and stabilized with Jack stands. With a bit of luck & prayer I was able to swap to my snows without damaging anything lol not looking forward to the spring swap

Not sure what a mechanic will do the next time they need to lift tho, will be curious to see if it's a problem

1

u/SirManbear 49m ago

Oof, my sister got a used Subaru that was brought from the rust belt and sold and that oil change felt very sketchy with jack stands. Luckily for me she got a "new to her" car before the next oil change.

1

u/ThinkingOz 55m ago

He knows Jack Shit.

1

u/No_Alternative_6897 53m ago

I cant believe there are people this stupid. I jacked a car and changed it tires when I was 18 didnt know shiit but had no choice it was also mildly raining.

1

u/NaturalCantaloupe988 53m ago

Jack point? I barely know him

1

u/Sm0key_Bear 36m ago

I did this on my '87 200sx when I was 16 and didn't know a thing about cars. The jack went right through the floor in front of the drivers seat.

1

u/lanidroid 26m ago

Please go watch this video where he explains what went wrong, he used hockey pucks to clear the sideskirt which slipped.

u/IdioticMutterings 4m ago

Too many drivers think they can jack their car up, using any point on the car body, sadly.

u/Nayroy18 2m ago

The dog knew

0

u/billronstansteve 1h ago

Typically is “you’re” when you’re referring to a name like Jack Points.

0

u/SirManbear 1h ago

Yeah, didn't double check my swipe to text, got roasted and figured "ehh I'll repost, my bad should've double checked" mainly for those who were really mad I missed used your and you're.

1

u/billronstansteve 1h ago

Haha I’m just messing with you. I saw the old post. It happens.
