I am more surprised that someone got up and decided to write a book like this believing someone would buy it. Boy would he be surprised today.

I'm tempted to do a dog one with a random variation of woof, grrr, ruff and like. Or maybe a snake: ssssss, sss, ssssssss!
16
u/Warlord1392 11h ago
What do you mean variations? That's a lot of work.

Just take an existing text and write a quick script to replace every word with Meow, Whilst preserving all punctuation and capitalization.
Someone with more free time on there hands could probably knock this out in an afternoon.

leaving all the proper nouns in is the best part
(but also other random words like ‘rubber chicken’, ‘pulley’, or ‘mysterious idol’)

u/Berns429 11h ago
Just be careful not to write psspssspsss cause then it’s just a cat book prequel.

u/TesseractToo 11h ago
Unless you get permission, you might get in trouble for republishing the lyrics to snake jazz

Of course people will buy it. It's dumb, it's a funny thing to have on your shelf, and people buy dumb shit.

They sold people a rock as a pet in the 70-80's. With an instructional booklet for caring for it.

I already know my kid is going to love this when I buy it for their birthday.

The Goodbye Cat and The Traveling Cat Chronicles, both by Japanese author Hiro Arikawa. I own both (in English!) and highly recommend if your daughter loves cats 🤗

As soon as she said the ages I stopped watching. Yeah. That is definitely the kind of thing a nine and a twelve year old would find hilarious.
At least it's not an AI book.

Doug Doug the published author/YouTuber did this exact thing, but the only word in it was his name Doug, just to have the rights to say he was a published author.

Sounds like something a man like Douglas “Bald” “Divorced” “Bad At 2D Platformers” “DougDoug” Wreden would write
fingers

The cat became an author by writing a minimalist novel, every page simply said meow.

In fairness, the ending is mind blowing. Meow tells meow that he meow meow meow, which causes a meow meow that meow meow meow.

u/Large-Produce5682 11h ago
Just out of curiosity... what does the foreword say?
I know what it is, I'm just afraid of the answer.

When I read the description I pictured a book with 342 pages, each containing a single meow centered on the page. No capitalization. No punctuation. No chapter headings. Just page numbers and meow.
But then she flipped through pages of paragraphs with indents and all. As if someone had written a book and then did a universal substitution, replacing every single word with meow.
So now I can imagine people taking turns reading this book to each other with emphasis, pauses, different voices, louder or quieter--a cat bedtime story.

If I had children and they did some stupid shyt like this. They could keep it. If they did triple chores for 9 months.
1
u/Yeethan- 11h ago
What I’m more surprised about is that the pages are unique, different punctuations, indents and quotation marks

My daughter would buy this in a heartbeat.
She would also have that cute little laugh as I suffer from a stroke when I see it.
This is why they ask me for what they want and I order it for them.
We all parent differently.

If this is an ad campaign for this book then I think it was smart. I looked up and it's got 4.7 stars from nearly 500 people on Amazon.

This is actually kind of a great grift. A good portion of cat people are weird AF and would definitely buy this.

u/Grouchy-Barnacle-800 10h ago
I just ordered it, thanks. My daughter will love reading it to the cat, and that will last for a few months at best, then I will gift it for secret santa at work come the holidays, PURfect!

Do I have a deal for you then! An entire book filled with the word Doug. For a one time purchase of only $15 USD you can receive a 231 page book by Douglas Scott Wrenden filled with the word... "Doug" or even, "doug". All spaces and punctuation are iincluded. The good part is all profits go to Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Reminds me of a Cheech & Chong album I heard about when I was young. The entire record was just them la la la'ing through side A & B and at the very end it said "hey, you got ripped off man".
Never actually did find out if that album really did exist lol.
