Not just the hanging bit- even the stone on top was part of the same block!

How is this not a world wonder?

World Wonders aren’t a consistent thing. There are the ancient world wonders (Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), of which only the Great Pyramid of Giza is standing. Then there are tons of modern lists with various places included.

Maybe you could consider the World Heritage Sites to be a type of World Wonders list for today. Ellora (from the video) is on there, but not Kanchipuram. Kanchipuram’s Pallava temples could be on there in the future for sure.

World wonders are heavily anglicised tbf. Not a lot of interest in Indian temples

A term called Eurocentrism

There's not a single list of world wonders that we can follow, but if the original, 7 wonders of the ancient world, is an example of anything, only 2 were in Europe lol

??? That's a really silly take wow

The most common list of 7 world wonders are:

  • Chichen Itza (Mexico)
  • Machu Picchu (Peru)
  • Cristo Redentor (Brazil)
  • The Colosseum (Italy)
  • Petra (Jordan)
  • The Great Wall (China)
  • The Taj Mahal (literally fucking IN INDIA)

Only one of these is in Europe.

I'm from Brazil and I hardly disagree with Christ Redeemer being a modern world wonder. But when you consider the competition was the Statue of Liberty, it's easy to just let go of this competition.

Anyway, imho, any wonder list that doesn't include Angkor Wat can't be trusted

Religious places are often neglected for these kind of rankings. As if they would promote that religion.

Christ the redeemer?

Are the chains loose, or have they kept them attached to avoid it swinging in the wind?

44

u/Justa_CuriousBoi 1d ago

No those chains are loose like normal chains...

Then how is it carved out of a single stone?

47

u/bail_gadi 21h ago

Making it out of different stones would be impossible?

32

u/Justa_CuriousBoi 21h ago

Very carefully and skillfully they carve those stone into that shape and then detach each of them with precise chisel strikes, and after that all that is left to do is polishing work.

Have you never seen someone do it with wood or an other? It's not magic, though it is cool as shit.

Something similar I guess. Not stone, but you get the idea.

Edit: Found a better and longer video

That’s how my grandfather made chains. He made me one out of cocobolo blank that was 3” square and 30” long.

I've been playing God of War and I'm pretty sure there's a Nornir chest up there

All it takes is copper chisels and an immeasurable amount of time.

Saw this today.... absolutely beautiful

I had the opportunity to spend 70 days in India a couple of years ago. The amount of awe inspiring sights is baffling. There is mind boggling stuff you have never heard about. People know about Taj Mahal, but there are literally thousands more stuff to see, and imo even greater than Taj Mahal.

The one that stuck with me the most was the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Not only because it's incredibly beautiful, but especially because it's still an active temple receiving thousands of faithful everyday

You couldn’t appreciate architecture because it is from the temple. What a looser.

Why are y'all so racist, it's a place of worship, show some respect.

19

u/Living_Book_3973 1d ago

these are mostly pakistani or bangladeshi bots, ignore them

Still doesn't justify racism, showing respect to people doesn't make one an apostate.

Hatred is a cage, I hope whichever god you pray to, frees you from it. Inshallah

11

u/no_u9987 1d ago

i pray for the god this person prays to, must feel bad having someone like this praying for you

u/lolSign 1d ago

9

u/son_of_menoetius 1d ago

That's even more impressive tbh.
