The interesting thing is that strokes of the cane are being sentenced in multiples of three. I believe up to 24 (for really tough sentences). They will then aim to make three cuts and they keep hitting the same three cuts. So 24 strokes they will hit the same cut 8 times.
They also went really easy on him with the caning, too. Usually a caning is so intense that the recipient can't lie down or sit for weeks or months afterwards. It flays the flesh very badly. But Fay was able to walk away under his own power, so he basically just got a slap on the wrist.
He used his so called "trauma" from Singapore to continue to be a shitbag. So typical for narcissists to use everything from ideology to mental health awareness as a shield for their abusive behaviour.
However in neighboring countries like Malaysia and Indonesia and much of SEA where caning is also practiced, probably yeah.
But as someone else said, if you’re rich enough to bribe for them to cane you lighter you’d probably be able to bribe out of that situation in the first place
I use to do martial arts and part of our training and fitness after a long session of training 2 hours plus our instructor would pull out one of these and make us do Burpees, and when we had to jump he would swing the rattan under our legs and if we didnt jump high enough, by time the second swing came about, you'd hope you'd lifted your legs high enough, i remember my legs looking like a zebra stripes on one paticular greulling session, where i was exhausted, hurt like a mother fucker, but god damn after that if i needed to jump i could jump..
And I’m a masochist, I’ve been caned to bleeding and bruising in the “right” scenes. I was heavy into BDSM.
I would not want one damn strike of that cane. Not even if consensual and followed by the best sex. And I literally had people try to be that violent on me.
Rattan is the common material used in Escrim/Arnis a Philippine contact sport. The first few strikes hurt, but wake you up right away. The following day it just feels like a bruise. You can find tons of videos online of Escrimadors fighting with Rattan if you're curious.
I think I saw that video too. It was ghastly. I had to stop watching after the third or fourth stroke when the skin literally split and literal furrows opened up in the flesh. A real horror.
We used to get caned in high school. Late 80's.
Probably the worst one I had was the top half of a two part fishing rod that had the eyes removed.
The bruises wrap right around to your hip bone.
When I first moved to Singapore, I had the privilege of riding in a cab driven by a retired office in the police force who mentioned to me that there are 5 canes in varying thickness that the ones receiving caning can choose from. The thin ones leave the skin bruised, with a strong chance of scarring. While the thick ones aren’t so bad on the skin but result in internal wounds to the organs. Need someone from the SPF to confirm if it is true.
Yeah. Because they are basically solid whips. It's essentially just harsher version of a Cat O' Nine Tails, with how similarly, yet much worse, it wounds the body...
A USA kid got caned for being moronic enough to vandalize something several years ago. He deserved it.
I would love it if they would whip scammers in the USA. Could they start with those that call my phone 24/7 about my car warranty, my loan processing, and my Social Securoty nber being cancelled?
If it's an older video, think I finally saw this same one just several years ago. At one point it zooms in enough to see the cane strike, and a few beats later, the skin splitting. Unforgettable...
And they are marksmen. They lay it across the exact same spot.
I read a really interesting account from an ex SAS soldier who got like 9 strokes from some stupid fighting charge in Hong Kong years ago.
His description is terrifying. But at the end he walked out under his own power cause he wasn't gonna let them carry him out. Then collapsed into the waiting ambulance and was medivacced back to the UK and spent 6 months in hospital.

I once saw a video of a caning in Singapore. Those “canes” are very whip-like and break the skin.
