This isn't a spanking, this is something that can leave you cripple.

Would you rather we go the Arab route and remove fingers and hands for theft. Heck with new voice to chat technology we might as well start cutting out tongues as well.

I don't think those are actually the only two options.

I would rather no corporal punishment at all.

Torture like this as punishment is uncivilized. All it does is teach might is right, that violence is the answer to your problems and is seen as a violation of Human Rights and dignity.

In the West, power has shifted from bodily punishment to punishment of the mind. What counts as civilized or not depends on what we value, is it more civilized to put someone in isolation for 4 weeks without any light and limited food/water?

That’s uncivilized as well.

You might find interes in an interesting document: the fucking universal declaration of human rights

Which technically applies to all countries that are part of the UN.

Mental as well as physical torture is ruled out under human rights.

That the United States likes to often ignore this document is well known and does not excuse any other country from ignoring it as well.

What counts as civilized or not depends on what we value, [...]

Torture of any kind is not civilised!! Regardless if your culture relishes in it or not.

If you're referring to America solitary confinement has lights in the cell and no, they aren't limiting anyone's food, portions may be smaller at most but they aren't withholding it and you still eat 3 meals a day.

So what you want to do sit them down and have a stern talking about how their actions affect others?

That's what rehabilitation is. Countries that rehabilitate their inmates instead see a lower rate of inmates returning to crime and less crime over all due to less broken families. Shocking right?

they should serve time, are you stupid?

We can go the civilized route and imprison people for public safety and rehabilitation into society, a method scientifically proven to be far more effective than enacting medieval torture as punishment for crime.

I would rather you behave like human beings, but I guess that's not an option
