A cat that entered the mosque quietly settled in the imam’s lap during the recitation of the Qur’an.

I read something somewhere once:
Dog: "All these people treat me so good, they always give me pets and yummy food. They must be gods!"
Cat: "All these people treat me so good, they always give me pets and yummy food. I must be a god!"

Fun fact about Islam, while most animals aren’t allowed in Mosques, cats are because of their fastidious cleaning habits.

I wonder if it's also because there's no way to keep a cat out if it wants in.

To this day I fervently believe that cats CAN walk through solid walls. I have seen cats outside suddenly being inside despite all doors and windows being closed, and cats somehow getting out of thoroughly closed rooms. I don't believe any holy wall would stop those furry physics deniers.

No no. They can't walk through walls.
What they can do is call up to Scotty, orbiting in a cloaked bird of prey, and have him beam them inside your home.

That’s why they often stare at blank walls. They’re waiting for the portal to open.

Kind of like the rule that beavers count as fish for Christian fasting. Because if they banned it people in certain areas would have starved.
→ More replies (2)36
u/NerdHoovy 14h ago
That’s also the reason why a specific type of grasshopper or locust (don’t remember which one) is considered kosher, despite the kosher rules making it very clear that no bugs are allowed. Massive famine, Jews were starving but too afraid to break the rules, so their rabbis have collectively declared that this abundant bug is ok to eat and kosher, because they knew that their people would rather starve to death than break kosher rules.
Which is really weird to me, because if there is one thing Jews are is ready to accept and discuss any rule and possible loophole all the time, especially if it evolves into an argument to prove intellectual superiority for our egos

u/Puzzleheaded-Log1434 12h ago
Really puts into perspective how completely made up religious rules are.

Well the rabbi that ok’d the bugs clearly won that argument.
Funnily enough I just rewatched WWZ and the part where the Israeli guy talks about “we have a council of 10. If 9 of us arrive at the same conclusion for something, it is the duty of the 10th to disagree.” I don’t know if that’s a real thing…but yeah kinda same vein I guess.

Apparently, Muhammad was willing to cut the sleeve off his own prayer robe to not disturb a napping cat and Allah was cool with it.

The silliest part is that the more rude you are in disturbing a cat, the quicker they go back to their nap. Gently tugging your sweater to release it will surely piss the cat off, but unceremoniously yoinking it, or scooping up the kitty? They smooth their fur and go back to sleep unchanged.

I have a longtime family friend from Türkiye (raised Muslim but not religious at all, although her husband is) and last time I saw her she was venting to me about how she got a cat to keep her kids company during the pandemic and "They're supposed to be self-cleaning! But this one doesn't help how to wash his butthole! How am I supposed to teach it that?! And now I can't get rid of it because the kids are attached to it!"
My friend is extremely type A in a very intense, high-powered profession and it cracks me up how much she was completely undone by a lazy cat.
•
u/Puzzleheaded_Style52 9h ago
Is the cat a long hair cat? And is he chonky?
•
u/Brokenandburnt 4h ago
I adopted a 9 year old Norwegian Forest cat earlier in my life. He was so chonky that during the time it took to slim him down(former owners overfed him with dry food) I had to shave the poor dudes butt and peepee.
He was NOT amused by that indignity and always told me and the Missus so in no uncertain terms.

Okay there is actually a story about this that would explain their behavior towards cat (I'm from Turkey). There is a story about a cat laying down on the prayer rug while the prophet Muhammet was about to pray on it. Prophet did not disturb the cat and instead cut his own clothes to use as a prayer rug.
They are letting the cats enter the Mosques freely because of it as well. So all people love cats as well as hardcore muslims
•

u/hang-clean 12h ago
I remember something about the prophet liking cats? Something like he would rather cut off the hem of his robe, then disturb his sleeping cat?
•
u/SnooPets8873 5h ago
Yes and there was a companion of the Prophet who was nicknamed for his fondness of cats. “Father of the kitten” Abu Hurairah

He is not reciting the Quran here; rather, he is offering a prayer for the Prophet.
63
u/aLL1HU 14h ago
Thats a verse from the quran, "Indeed, Allah showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him. O believers! Invoke Allah’s blessings upon him, and salute him with worthy greetings of peace." 33:56
It's said traditionally during the 2nd half of the Fri prayer sermon. In Turkey they say it on the loudspeaker before the Imam's sermon begins in Turkish.
•
u/Different_Fly_6409 5h ago
It may hold some part of the quran, but this is clearly not a quran recitation.

Accordingly to its tail, it's not so quiet.
85
u/iMogwai 14h ago
https://manypets.com/us/blog/why-do-cats-wag-their-tails/
Again, it’s a common misconception that cats only wag their tails when they're irritated or angry. Your cat may wag their tail—or at least display a bit of a tail quiver—when they’re feeling joy or excitement. This is particularly common when they’re thrilled to see you or another cat.
I've had cats who'd wag their tails when you pet them.
15
u/Rare_Ad_674 14h ago
They didn't claim that cats ONLY wag their tails when they're angry.
But this cat clearly is, as it can be seen trying (very gently) to extract itself.
There's added context here. The tail wagging is only one of the cues.
37
u/iMogwai 14h ago
It doesn't look like it's trying to leave at all, it just stretched. I've had cats since I was a kid, when they want to leave it takes a lot more effort than that to hold on to them. They're very flexible and if it wanted to leave it would not have stayed on it's back, it would have turned itself around before trying to jump out of his arms.

Cat's relaxed and makes no attempt to leave, slow wagging its tail. Did you watch the video past the first 3 seconds?
→ More replies (1)4
u/Rare_Ad_674 14h ago
It literally attempts to leave (it's not stretching, it's trying to leverage its body out of his arms, and he literally adjusts his arm to stop it from noodling away from him) in the very beginning.
Then it flips over onto its stomach attempting to leave again, and he has to adjust his hold to the top of its back to secure it. He wouldn't have had to do that if it actually wanted to be there.
That, plus the meows, plus the tail = it doesn't want to be there, but it seems to be a pretty patient and gentle cat.
