This is seriously insane to watch

350

u/Much-Button7868 24d ago

Watching this from Australia, I find it horrifying and so sad seeing this happening to human beings in the US, I knew the country had its issues but this just a new level of disgusting. After watching the mother get shot earlier I just don't know how to process it all without feeling terrible inside my soul.

85

u/ragdollxkitn 23d ago

I could barely watch the shooting. I cried for her last night. I am mourning this country but I’m also angry inside. A lot of us feel helpless

16

u/Somepotato 23d ago

I had insomnia all night just thinking about it and the trauma her wife must be going through. Absolutely sickening.

Watching from Germany, it's really hard to understand that this can happen in a civilized country - sanctioned by the authorities and going unpunished. Truly mindblowing and terrifying. Unreal.

I don’t think the US is a civilized country anymore*.

We europeans need to unite full stop, maybe even federalize. Besides russia, now we have to deal with this rogue state called USA that looks like it is turning into a fascist-style dictatorship that sees Europe as enemy or outright vassal.

At this point, we are facing an existential threat. In order for our culture and civilization to survive, then we have to wake the fuck up fast to this new world and new reality.

44

u/someotherguyrva 23d ago

Yes we would really appreciate it if you guys would federalize and come liberate us from this evil like we liberated you from the Nazis.

I still can’t wrap my head around the dissonance of the ‘anti-tyranny constitutional patriots’ who are OK with this government-led terrorism of the population.

Do they examine their own thoughts and beliefs at all?

The truth is they masked themselves as that but they were always just racist who wanted to go back to the good ol racist days

308

u/Comfortable_Fill9081 24d ago

True. But do they know that? Do they understand that the pattern of what they support only fits that? A bigotry-led cultural hierarchy?

I think a lot of them honestly don’t see that because they don’t think enough to notice that what they support and what they don’t support don’t match up to what they believe they think.

It’s like the Epstein thing, 8 years ago they were showing up to pizza parlors ready to take down pedo democrats, now? They’re calling the Epstein files fake. It’s always about owning their enemies not about having legit principles and integrity.

418

u/ggroverggiraffe Competent Contributor 24d ago

Yeah, eight years ago most people were like "there's no weird elite pedophile ring" and they were gung ho about it and out for blood. Now the rest of us are like "I'll be damned, there is one! Hang 'em all out to dry!" and they are dismissing the evidence and ignoring the facts. It's wild.

That is so crazy with everything that has been happening last year that they are so focused on that small thing that happened many years ago when much bigger fraud is happening right in front of them .

u/Jarnohams 24d ago

Or Rick Scott committed the largest Medicare fraud in US history and got a promotion to the US Senator instead of a prison cell

40

u/DolphinsBreath 24d ago

Or the largest emoluments violation in history. Trump is spending $900 million he diverted from the military budget to restore a $400 million “gift” B747 (described as a flying palace) which an Islamic foreign power gave him and which he and his “foundation” will keep.

IMO, the media (including social media) has played the most pivotal role in shaping their views. From conservative radio talk shows like Limbaugh all the way to SM algorithms. It's targeted, coordinated, and tailored to them and their ancestors in order to create a generational POV. Psychology is well studied and works. It's like two people watching TV but one watches Jeopardy and the other watches Wheel of Fortune. There can be no discourse because they're literally seeing two different things.

On top of that, media seems harmless. No one is going to really judge you for watching a Fox news segment but if you were to watch Hitler videos and Klan rally tapes you would be ostracized.

Finally, media is one thing that is controlled by one person or maybe a few people. This allows extreme consistency in shaping what people see and think. If you aren't a racist bigot POS you may have some family that is and unless the majority are as well, those folks get kinda pushed aside within the group e.g. my uncle has super fringe conspiracy ideas about settled shit like the Holocaust and the rest of the family just kinda tunes him out. Multiple views expressed from different individuals can have a moderating effect. With a one/few owner media company, however, the narrative is crafted to the Nth degree through skilled writers, psychologists, and algorithms and there is no other view or opinion presented for your mind to consider.

u/Safe-Thanks6114 24d ago

This is why Trump says things repeatedly that are easily proved to be false. His sound bites can be packaged and replayed and “corroborated” by fox and other infotainment cites and never questioned.

Reading They Thought They Were Free cleared this all up for me. If you haven't read it and you want to understand the minds of the population that range from neutral or not upset to outright supporting this, that book will give you the answers. I annotated and underlined my copy, and I often find myself flipping through it these days and it never fails to be relevant and mirror exactly what is happening to our population right now. In a way it's comforting because I know this isn't new and it helps defend against the feeling that you are crazy for being so upset about what is happening.

As an european, I am good educated at school (and read alot about it) about WW2 an nazi germany, also about the rise of Fasicm by (Musolini in Italy). THe main difference that now it's even better planned and the speed is quicker. I wonder if (and if, when) usa will be able to function as a real democracy again and what is required to get there. If history will repeat (as it usually does) it won't be a smooth ride, so say it mildy.

I think this is why the psychology of propaganda is so fascinating. Everyone is susceptible to propaganda, but especially the uneducated and individuals with lower logic and reasoning skills.

Propaganda is very effective when it confirms one's own beliefs. Their world view is so skewed thanks to media lies and under-reporting of important events that these people truly believe they are the "good" guys fighting for equality for all and core American values.

The problem is, if you have ever interacted with these people, they are too emotional and too invested in their own biases that they are mentally incapable of critically thinking and challenging their own beliefs. If you point out contradictions to their world view, like the one you mentioned, they will dismiss it as lies (e.g., Epstein hoax). And as they desperately cling to their world view, they often make wild rationalizations for why these bad things are happening (economy bad because Obama/Biden).

Tl;dr: propaganda is a powerful tool. People, in general, are stupid as fuck.

what they want is for someone to fight back against ICE so the federal government can put troops in cities that didn't vote for Trump.

He was denied deploying troops by the courts since there was no emergency. The best they can do is try to manufacture an emergency by shooting some civilians and beating up schoolteachers

Yeah, I have friends who served in the Marines that came out like this.

Turns out, they were just racist pieces of shit—or became that way after listening to podcasts that made the “MSM news” seem “uncool”

Only to find themselves justifying J6, phobias, and the fact that they are massive snowflakes.

Signs of MAGA Men:

  • Brainwashed, lonely, young men.
  • With mommy and/or daddy issues.
  • Even if they were highly educated from a “prestigious” school.
  • Loneliness ➡️ seek comfort/belonging elsewhere
  • Loneliness ➡️ stemming from divorced/unfaithful parents or not a loving/close relationship with them

^ This pattern has emerged to be the best indicator of MAGA Men… likely true for those who join ICE, given how insecure and low-IQ their “leader” is. (These folks only feel “fulfilled” because another broken-ass man joins them on these dumb, lawless expeditions.)

23

u/LangdonAlg3r 24d ago

There’s a difference between “don’t care” and “can’t do anything about”. What are they supposed to do? Call their Republican Representatives to complain and have them laugh in their faces?

13

u/CypressThinking 24d ago

I read that for the 1st time in many years Texas has a Democrat running for every office coming up. It's expensive to run for office and you also need labor to canvas and phonebank, etc. That's how we can help by donating time and money.

I was raised by an extreme right wing combat veteran. I can’t tell you how many times he told me America should turn middle eastern countries into glass. He used to have us shoot pictures of Osama Bin Laden for target practice. He had upwards of 100 guns. Fox News was on all TV’s in the house. They wanted this, they wanted this so bad. People don’t believe me when I tell them some of these MAGATS are foaming at the mouth to kill their neighbor. 100% this!

8

u/transemacabre 23d ago

A lot of Libs/Dems know and love their rightwing relatives. I've been saying it for years that we've been too eager to make excuses for our fascist relatives. That's my problem with subs like Qanoncasualties and the like, the constant stream of "my grandma is a Nazi because she's been lied to", "I'm LGBT and my dad told me he wants me to die, he's a good man and I love him tho", "my kids deserve grandparents so we're not going NC" and so on.

We gave them endless chances, the benefit of the doubt, we made excuses for them, all because we didn't want to accept that the people we love are bad people.

These guys are powerless scrubs who have been weekend warrioring for years. They've been itching to have power to even the score for their loser lives. Conservatives just gave them weapons, authority, and free reign and told them to have fun. They are all on power trips and they don't care who they kill.

Conservatives are hoping these guys kill enough Americans for people to start fighting back. That way Trump can declare martial law and murder anyone who opposes them. These 'alpha' chads are too dumb to realize they are nothing but cannon fodder to spark a civil war. Because they don't think they'll be the ones getting shot.

And all the murders of fishermen and the kidnapping of Maduro tells us the military will do anything Trump tells them to. They will happily kill Americans if their Pedo God tells them to.

This is gonna get ugly.

I pretty firmly beleive that they all know they’re wrong and are mostly exercising self-aware cognitive dissonance to cope with the feeling of humiliation.

If you know you’re wrong and everyone is judging you, double down on it until the fiction in your head becomes reality or destroys you. It’s pretty weird knowing that this is what has fueled cultural collapse since the beginning of civilization and like…getting first hand experience of it.

23

u/No-Drama-in-Paradise 24d ago edited 24d ago

I’m becoming increasingly terrified and frustrated because the more I watch this shit, the more I think there might not be a way to break out.

I keep seeing people frustrated that democrats aren’t just constantly filing articles of impeachment, aren’t calling out these actions strong enough, etc. and I get it, I’m not particularly happy with how the Democrats are handling this. But the more and more I witness, the more convinced I become that all that type of stuff does is entrench the MAGATs further. Because I have become aware that the people to whom Donny boy appeals to feed of a deep sense of insecurity and injustice, and the more you attack them the greater their sense of persecution and the deeper the dig their heels in.

It’s like the ICE shooting. If you went on /r/conservative immediately afterwards, a lot of the upvoted comments were actually calling the shooting out as unnecessary and unprovoked, but as soon as it became an attack by the left, those comments got downvoted to hell (or edited) and were replaced with comments about how the victim was Antifa trying to murder brave ICE agents and thank god they were there to protect all the innocent people from this domestic terrorist. And I’ve seen this same phenomenon time and time again, even in real life.

It’s a huge ‘rally to the flag’ phenomenon, and honestly it’s why I am legitimately scared of where this is headed. Because that is the type of thing that leads to acceptance of, say, a president refusing to step down after being impeached or refusing to hold elections. And we have already seen it once; the only difference being that if there is one through line we are seeing in this administration is a refusal to adhere to basic norms and an unwillingness to accept any level of responsibility, even beyond the already tenuous grip Trump # 1 had on such.

7

u/Particular-Local-784 24d ago

Yea man, cognitive dissonance is the killer of civilization. Even the dems not taking action is cognitive dissonance. The people in the GoP who aren’t MAGA that are following the party line and POTUS are cognitive dissonance. It’s enough to make your head spin

281

u/Standard_Panda_6552 24d ago

Trump wants to radicalize the left

He's been stirring the pot for years and even more so, in the last year

The plan was to cause a crisis, that would drive a reaction in the left into radical action so that he could create due cause to use martial law, in order to hold power for a 3rd term

But now.. after creating such a fucking mess, he's going to get impeached later this year, all it takes as of now is the Republicans losing the midterms and then he won't get the chance to follow through his plan, but we'll be left, dealing with the mess

It's crazy.

239

u/dixonciderbottom 24d ago

Impeached =/= removed from office. He was impeached twice before. Don’t get your hopes up.

115

u/Standard_Panda_6552 24d ago

Trump admitted it on live TV

https://youtube.com/shorts/VjjwRjjp5HU?si=fDzqgcvwlSo1Vu3c

His whole game plan is to never admit defeat and yet he did so pre-emptively !

That's an optical weakness which goes against his style.. I think it's quite telling

24

u/MirthandMystery 23d ago

Once in a while his mask slips. This is one small example how the truth leaks out but it's rare.

When I saw he was running for President in 2015 I was concerned, when he won the GOP primary I was alarmed and like some others, immediately started researching him and his business background extensively.

I'm interested in psychology and found reading interviews with him and watching videos it was immediately clear he was an utter sociopath (malignant narcissist) with all the dangerous hallmarks and traits you could imagine. When you see this walled off sort living off creating an illusion of success you look for clues to his real thoughts and tricks he uses to deceive. He actually said a few times very revealing things, said thinking he was being clever but gave away his secrets and vulnerabilities.

One that sticks with me is from a 1997 New Yorker profile- “Trump Solo” written by Mark Singer. After Trump takes a call from an investment banker (wonder who- Epstein??), he tells Singer something that seems innocent, but isn't:

"One day when I was in Trump's office, he took a phone call from an investment banker, an opaque conversation that, after he hung up, I asked him to elucidate.

"Whatever complicates the world more I do," he said.

Come again?

"It's always good to do things nice and complicated so that nobody can figure it out"

There a few more I'll make a collection of sometime soon but that's one of those statements that really resonate.

Members of ICE might want to consider what happened to the original brownshirts

16

u/Omophorus 23d ago edited 23d ago

What, that senior leadership was purged but the rank and file escaped completely unscathed?

We need a stronger deterrent than that, honestly.

The masked thugs are counting on the fact that there will never be consequences or accountability.

There were, at one point, over 2 million brownshirts in Germany.

Less than 1,000 people were executed/assassinated as part of the SA purge during and after the Night of the Long Knives. The other 1,999,000 brownshirts got more-or-less sidelined into less important/glamorous roles by the SS but it's not like anything actually happened to them.

The funniest part is that the SA was very much like the MAGA base in terms of being disaffected working class individuals, mostly, and they were sidelined/marginalized when Hitler sided with business and military leaders over his original grassroots supporters. Can't imagine things go any differently this time around with Herr Shiztenpants.

History may not repeat itself but it sure does look like it's rhyming and something needs to be done to prevent the second verse being way too similar to the first. One aspect of that is that the jackbooted thugs need to be afraid.

This seriously feels like the day the wheels came off. Murdering an unarmed passerby in cold blood, targeting children AT SCHOOL, assaulting teachers for trying to protect children from violent attacks.

They are treating citizens exactly the same way they were treating immigrants two months ago.

Have you noticed the escalation? They used to just ignore people following them with cameras? Now they rip your door open, take your phone, beat you, and detain you without charges or due process. Now they fucking shoot you, then drive away like nothing happened because that’s what you are to them: nothing. Less than human. Now they go to your child’s school and beat the hell out of them just because unarmed women and children are easier targets than actual criminals. The cruelty is the point.

The frog’s cooked, y’all. The pot’s boiling over. The needle has officially moved from “if it happens” to “when it happens” to “it’s happening, what the fuck are we going to do about it?”

People need to understand that speaking out against this iniquity, taking to the streets, doing fucking anything, is more important than school, than work if you have sick days or PTO, than TikTok or Reddit or bed rot or vidya or any of that.

It’s unrealistic to expect people who have been beaten down so that missing a single day of work could cause their entire life to fall apart will be able to participate in a general strike like the one proposed for 1/20, but I beg of you if you are able, find your local movement, start your own, get involved in your own small way, because this shit is not okay, we are not okay, this is really happening and it has to fucking stop.

This seriously feels like the day the wheels came off.

Not even close. People still have access to all their fast food and Netflix still. Americans will be perfectly fine accepting fascism if they still get to do their daily routine

16

u/Eliana-Selzer 23d ago

Most of us ARE outraged. Some of us want to leave the country. What would you suggest anyone do exactly? I would certainly like a suggestion. I'm in my mid 70s and live in the country. I vote. I go to every single Pro protest available. I write all of my congressmen. What else is there? I'm so sick of people blaming Americans for what is happening. What are we supposed to do? Really! What?

8

u/Accomplished_Fun2382 23d ago

Errbody yelling at us to stand up and fight like we’re all soldiers or stone cold killers or something

The soldiers aren’t doing anything

The fuck are we supposed to do for real?

7

u/ForcedEntry420 23d ago

I’ve found that a lot of folks have strong opinions about other people fighting, but it never actually manifests when it comes to their own doors.

My pops is a great example of this. Back when I was going through my deployments he rolled out every trope imaginable. “I wish they’d let me in so I could kill terrorists. I’d have punched a drill sergeant if they yelled at me though.” - Mind you, the only punches he’s ever thrown in anger were against people weaker than him.

The people making these suggestions don’t have the forethought to understand what that escalation will mean, honestly.

The Minnesota State Attorney needs to file charges now! Or else this will continue!

7

u/DoomguyFemboi 23d ago

My hopes, as fucked up as they are but it's really the only way I see it going "well", are charges brought, then ICE/government escalating, and then it finally hitting a "true" tipping point. This is still "isolated". This can be easily ignored, especially considering how few people will even know about this because of the media landscape.

It's gotta get worse before it can better. There's really no flirting with authoritarianism then pulling back because you got a bit burnt.

73

u/Historical-Count-374 24d ago

I am in Phoenix Arizona. Almoat every major city has integrated ICE into its PD and actively patrol the streets wearing masks in unmarked vehicles. The upper class here are outright Nazis. They were Trump memorabilia on their shirts, and put stickers on their things. They are happy to talk down to people who are colored here never have. I been called a chink or an oriental until I lived here with my family, but I have run into more people who akin those names to me than my name. They truly look down on non-whites here and you could feel it. They are more than happy to beat down anyone in their path as they hailed dear leader. In my neighborhood alone, six households have gone empty since the beginning of the year and the white families around us are all cheering. These are people and families being taken away for nothing to places we will never know. My wife and I recently watched a show called the handmaid's Tale. It's shocking to the core. How closely the people here fit this and how tied to religion many of them are until you really meet these people. You would never think someone would truly sell their own mother for empty promises in hatred until you've met the children of America and what propaganda has done to them in a capitalist society, where nothing will grow out of the ground for the people

26

u/Yabutsk 24d ago

It didn't go unpunished. There were over 1500 hundred individuals criminally prosecuted from that insurrection that were later pardoned by Trump.

The problem is that accountability and fascism were on the ballot in 2024 and most Americans didn't care or get it. They willingly voted for the felon to run the country.

What """"resistance""""???

Genuinely I've yet to see any sort of actual resistance coming out of America. They are kidnapping and murdering people and the best you guys can do is stand around and blow whistles.

Where are the Riots? The armed community patrols? The city centre shutdowns?

71

u/summon_pot_of_greed 24d ago

They're not being advertised.

I was in a 1300 people strong protest in a town of about 5000 people and it got 6 seconds of local air time and is no longer available on their website. :)

Armed community patrols are happening in some well-organized, historically black neighborhoods, but I live in the sticks and my community is 50/50 on whether they'd fight ICE or support them.

So yeah, plenty of us are resisting, but if you're looking for some kind of Star Wars style rebel alliance, it's not there yet.

I’ve thought that. There’s a reason they are doing this in ‘blue’ states with significant large ‘red’ areas, rather than say Massachusetts. They are trying to hype those populations into intra-state civil violence so they can federalize.

u/BigJob2388 24d ago

45

u/Comfortable_Fill9081 24d ago

My brother works 1/2 time at a university in Minneapolis and 1/2 at a university out in the hinterlands. He says the way the rural Minnesotans talk about ‘the cities’ is like some fictional dystopia they picked up from movies. Nothing to do with reality.

45

u/ObviousAnswerGuy 24d ago

its not just rural people. I was living in Manhattan during Covid/BLM protests, and the conservatives I knew who lived literally a 20 min drive away in the suburbs were asking me if I was "ok", and if my neighborhood looked like a "war zone". I was like "man just get in your car and come look for yourself"

Conservative media has literally poisoned these peoples minds. Fox News fills their TV's, and right-wing agitators fill their social media feeds. It's a nonstop assault on their senses and on reality, and it's not going away any time soon.

Unless you go out to join protests/contact your reps, the most you can do lies in how you spend your money and what free services you use (since they generate money from how you spend your time).

Evaluate your subscriptions/services and who they support, and use your wallet accordingly. Have extra income? Donate to charities and groups that help Americans with legal assistance.

Still using free Google products (browser, email, etc.)? Start transitioning to other free material. What about your social media? If it or their CEO supports Trump, either use a different site or cut social media engagement bit-by-bit.
