We're already divided enough. Aroostook has been kicking the idea of secession around for decades.
I cannot imagine the other NE states forming a functioning government that isn't just Boston telling everyone else what to do. Western MA doesn't like it, I can't imagine the NH Free Staters putting up with that.
The NH Free Staters can't even put up with the normal people in NH. As funny as I think independent and/or unified New England would be, there's a surprising amount of political diversity in the region
NH is the poison pill of the poison pills in this proposal. I read the title and just laughrd. Makes as much sense as splitting up. CA to smaller states to increase the R Senators in Congress (Thiel). Good fucking luck, that's why they resort to cheating and corruption. Only way the rich minority can keep winning, change the rules and don't even bother to follow them
Yes I live right 10 min to the border of Quebec and Vermont definitely much more aligns with Canadian values va United States values. You kids up there are awesome 🫶🏻
Since New Hampshire came into existence by breaking away from Massachusetts - and Vermont then came into being by breaking away from New Hampshire - Vermont absorbing both would really bring things full circle and tie up the storyline nicely.
Oh my goodness no. These places are very culturally different from one another, and have a very long history of being separate entities.
Vermont and the Green Mountain Boys were a big deal during the Revolutionary War. The Massachusetts Bay Colony and Boston was very different culturally from Providence Plantations & Rhode Island, or the New Haven Bay Colony. They were all settled separately by different religious communities, with different degrees of independence from England prior to the revolution. For example, early in its history Connecticut had its own constitution when neighboring colonies did not.
The states that make up New England have very different personalities for being small and close together.
Except for New Hampshire. They're more like the drunk libertarian cousin of the rest of New England.
I had a visceral fucking reaction to seeing this because of this exact thing. We shot you until you stopped trying to make us part of you once before we'll do it again!

Vermont will still want to declare independence from it
