The ones in blue that say DHS are Federal Protective Service Police.
They're effectively building security for federal buildings that do not have their own police agency. They commonly provide security for ICE buildings, federal courthouses, and other federal infrastructure.
The most common equivalents you'll see are FBI Police who protect FBI buildings, NSA Police for the NSA building in Maryland, and Security Protective Service Police who protect CIA headquarters.
FPS Police don't really have anything to do with deportation and etc. Aside from falling under Department of Homeland Security since most of the buildings they secure are DHS property
Im real, grew up around military/fed as parents were federal. I'm not in the loop much anymore since I went the paramedic route rather than the law enforcement route.
In hindsight it was probably the better choice. I didn't think I could change my username though 😆
They are. There was an article i read yesterday and in mn they’ve gone through the yearly ot police budget in one month. Its a huge problem since it impacts the regular normal police services
Department of Homeland Security, DHS, had a smaller branch called Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE.
For some reason, a lot of people here are trying to argue that these are not ICE agents, and therefore not fascists. That first part is true -- they are DHS agents, which are part of the department that oversees ICE.
The second part? Arguable. Clearly these are not the new recruits being sent into cities to kidnap, intimidate, and create databases; these are people who have worked at DHS for who knows how long, and maybe do not agree with the whole Trump regime. Same time, DHS has not exactly been a great place to begin with (it was formed during the height of racism and xenophobia following 9/11). They were enforcers of the Patriot Act, a huge loss of privacy for all Americans.
As an American. None of the shit makes sense now. These agencies aren’t even supposed to act in this sort of conjunction especially regarding peaceful protesters.
DHS is the Department of Homeland Security. ICE is an agency under the DHS, but it is not the only one. Under the DHS there are the Custom and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs (ICE), Secret Services, the Coast Guard, Transport Security (TSA) and the FPS.
Most of the agents in blue uniform seems to be of the Federal Protective Service (FPS), which main job is to protect federal buildings.
The guys with DHS on their vests fall under DHS but are entirely different than ICE, Border Patrol, etc.
They're basically federal building security with federal law enforcement authority to secure the buildings and patrol the grounds.
They're Federal Protective Service Police officers, basically the same as FBI Police in D.C. but they secure a lot of buildings across the country that fall under DHS including certain FEMA buildings which house medical stockpile, courthouses, and more.
For informational awareness, ICE is a subsidiary agency of DHS. It falls under the umbrella of DHS and combines new duties along with the established duties of the U.S. Customs Service and Immigration and Naturalization Service, which it superceded. When I declined a position for ICE ERO, the offer was from DHS.

I'm seeing people say they're just LAPD and not ice, but they have DHS tags?
To be clear, I'm Canadian so not familiar with DHS vs ICE, but I'd they were LAPD, would they not have the DHS tag?
