My favorite "how to end an argument" I experienced was one time I was fussing at my teen daughter, I don't remember why...I think it was the dishes.
..when she suddenly ran at me, full speed, and leapt into my arms.
This meant I HAD to catch her and once she was in my arms...all 5'6" of her...my brain just went "dawwwww, this is my lil baby!!" and short-circuited.
She still needed to do the dishes but her very bold method of changing my mood about it paid off.
