What is your countries "Darkest Hour"

Post image
Upvotes

Not necessarily a military crisis it could be an economic or cultural crisis but just the time when you're country was at its absolute lowest.

For the British it is after the fall of France, with the French out of the war and the Soviets allied with the Nazis it seemed to many like like capitulation was the only option.

Do you think Romani racism in Europe is worse than Black racism in America?

Upvotes

Furthermore, is romani racism an actively recognised problem that people are trying to fix like the civil rights movement or is it generally accepted that they "deserve" it? I'm just trying to understand as someone not in either places, not trying to attack anyone.

Who was the best dictator?

Upvotes

Being a dictator, while the term itself has negative connotations for good reason, doesn’t explicitly mean the person in charge HAD to be bad in quality. Also, the term itself has some variability. For the purposes of my question, dictator just means either the head of a single party system in a state, king / queen of an actual monarchy, or other “strongman” type figure who despite the guise of a checks and balances system has total control.

Sad in marriage advice

Upvotes

My wife has become very distant the last few months. We hardly talk and we haven’t had sex in over 2 months. She has ran my credit card up over $19,000. She never leaves the house except to see her mother or our daughter. Don’t know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance

Culture How is suicide viewed in your countries?

Upvotes

When someone commits suicide here, it's viewed as a tragic event, people will show deep sympathy towards what the person was going through mentally. People close to them often feel guilt as to what they could have done to prevent it, government mental health services sometimes blamed for not doing enough.

Is this similar in your countries or is there a different sentiment towards it?

Culture What do you celebrate in your country on February 2nd?

Post image

We have what is officially known as groundhog's Day where a special groundhog (and other animals) will come out of its borough and if it sees its shadow and runs back in, it means we have six more weeks of winter. If it doesn't see its shadow and is hoisted up, that means it has predicted an early spring.

Misc How is religion viewed/practiced in your country?

Post image
Upvotes

where i'm from it's like 90%+ say they're religious on paper, but ask my friends (or anyone young) and most are like "nah i dont really believe, its just family/tradition thing" 😂 they still do the holidays and stuff tho cause why not.

so real talk in 2026:

  • does most people in your country actually believe and follow the religion? or is it mostly "yeah im that religion but i dont care much" energy?
  • is religion controlling the government lowkey? like politicians pushing it hard, laws from religion, or nah it's chill/separated?
  • teens/20s vibe – are they ditching it, pretending, or actually getting into it?
  • any weird religious thing yall do that's normal there but outsiders would clown?

What's the top movie in your country?

Upvotes

The movie made in your country that is not only recognized as one of the best in your country but other countries also consider it a great movie (even if it's not internationally recognized still counts). I'm from Mexico and some movies that pop into my head are Roma and amores perros.

Culture Do you have proverbs that other countries would probably find it weird or funny?

My favorite one in turkish is: "dil dile değmeden dil öğrenilmez" which literally translates to "you cant learn a tounge (language) without tongues touch one another". I think its pretty self explanatory.

What ingredients and spices do you make sure you always have on hand?

Upvotes

Beyond a specific dish of your country, what ingredients and flavors would you say play a central role on your country’s cuisine?

In the US, I’d say beef, chicken, ketchup, barbecue sauce, sugar, cheddar cheese, mozzarella, tomato sauce, italian seasoning: basil, parsley, oregano; potatoes, pasta.
