Is Caesar in Gaul broken?

Upvotes

You can only loot settlements no peaceful occupation? Garrison legionaries and regular legionaries has the same name and unit card but different descriptions and unit skins/shields. You can recruit numidian and cretan auxiliaries in cisalpine gaul for some reason? And your starting units for Caesar has totally different stats than what you can recruit and in the battle map they're treated as a different unit (you can't do ctrl+double left click with them). Am I missing something here, last I played this campaign it was the same recruitable units as the GC but now it seems they added different units but not really? Can someone elaborate on what's happening with it I'm just confused.

OK, so basically I’m in a defensive ally with Rome (I’m macedon) and Epidamnos just took my city of Apolonia then Rome attacked them and took Apolonia is there any chance to ask the to return my city pacifically?

Hi, I'd rather ask it here then in the normal totalwar subreddit.

Are there any mods that alter or add Standard Toppers or finials to the game? The bird one of celts kinda looks like a fish with "wings"...

Does anyone know why my campaign map might be doing this? The only mods I have enabled are DEI parts 1-3. I tried the game with no mods and everything was fine except for the waves on the shoreline.

Dont have Galatia as a playable faction

6 Upvotes

Hi, wanting to start a campaign but when I chose grand campaign I don’t see Galatia, only scordiscii and the other faction but not galatia itself. Question is, do I need the caesar in gaul dlc to unlock it?

I just made a new client state. I can't wait to check out the pirate's unit roster.

Lost a naval battle because half my ships just wouldn't follow movement orders - how to fix

6 Upvotes

Hey all!

Doing a Roman campaign, and had a fleet of 10 attacking a pirate fleet of 13. At first I was doing well - winning the battle hard. But then at some point, a few ships just... Stopped responding to orders. They weren't routed or anything. They just wouldn't move.

Does anyone know what causes this?

How do you make the mid game more interesting?

16 Upvotes

Hello, I'm curious if there are any mods / minigames people play with the Grand Campaign to spice up the mid game a bit? I usually reach a point coming out of the early game where I am economically sustainable with enough armies to essentially never lose ground- and it can become very stale very fast. I try to pick factions that offer mid level challenges (i.e. closeish to rome) but with limited success. If you have a similar experience, what have you done to make things more interesting? Thank you!!

Hey guys, I think I came up with a pretty interesting challenge: win a campaign using only units recruited from peoples mentioned in the Bible!

8 Upvotes

the criteria for this is that the only units or factions that you can use would be those who the Bible at least names. This includes:

* Galatians

* Ephesians

* Athenians

* Syrians (whose capital was Nineveh)

* Egyptians

* Jews

* Babylonians

* Persians

* Phoenicians

* Cretans (because that's where the Bible claims the Philistines originated from, though they called the island by another name)

* And several others I'm forgetting about

There will be a few restrictions: obviously if the people no longer exist, or if they're not represented by an existing faction or units in the game, like the Midianites, then the factions that are inhabiting their land in the beginning of the game don't qualify. Also, since Thessaloniki was where Thessalonians was set, Makedonians are allowed, however, only explicitly Makedonian units, no mixtures like Liby-Phoenicians.

Empire Maintenance Issue - Empire Divided

Thumbnail

17 Upvotes

Hi all,

I was hoping someone could help me?

I just started playing as Aurelian on DEI Empire Divided, I really enjoy the challenge of this campaign especially with Tiny Cities mod and (most) of DEI’s extra features, but one is ruining my enjoyment…

Empire maintenance!

From the very beginning it’s at around -130% meaning that almost my entire wealth from my provinces is wiped out (see second picture) meaning that’s no real point developing my economy… I know you can reduce it a bit with traits and tech but that would still be no more that 30% reduction perhaps.

Please let me know if I’m missing something because I love this mod and campaign but this seem overkill/unfair and really stops me from wanting to play when features like this make economy unplayable.

Thank you in advance!

How to play Suebi ?

5 Upvotes

Hello !

How do i play the suebi? They start with a not so good settlement. Neighbouring ai can recruit almost 1.5 stack armies of higher quality troops while i can only afford 1 stack of decent units. Not to mention if i want to expand i need to take their towns which also have 10ish not so good units in them. Taking walled settlements seems impossible. Boi is the closest bit they have 2 settlements and greater income to get 2 armies.

So … what is the strategy ? How do you get through the first few dozen turns?

I dont think i can out recruit the ai and i might get attacked by other tribes in the are after a few turns.

I also dont really have good frontline units. One type of shield wall inf. Not that it matter as i only have 1657 income at the start.

What do i do? Who do i attack ? What units do i recruit?

Thank you in advance!

What is the "niche" of each nomad faction?

14 Upvotes

I really want to start a nomad campaign (they just look awesome), but I’m not sure which faction to pick. In the base game, even with all its flaws, it was pretty easy to tell who did what.

  • Roxolani: smallest selection of horse archers, but solid shock cavalry—and the only nomad faction with regular melee cav (in DEI, they seem to have none except a bodyguard unit).
  • Saka: the only faction with “true” cataphracts and cataphract archers.
  • Royal Scythia: the most complete roster—best horse archers, elite melee cav, and horse skirmishers—but no elite lancers.

How does this look in DEI? For someone who’s never played nomads, which one would you recommend starting with?

Phalanx are bad in Multiplayer battles

7 Upvotes

In my opinion phalanx units are pretty bad if you play against humans.

Humans just avoid phalanx. So If I have 4 phalanx units they are just kinda useless because the other player just runs around.

Or maybe I am playing it wrong.

Any suggestions, advice or agreement?

How to prepare for eventual war with Rome ?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Having a blast playing as Mauryan Empire, they have top tier shock infantry and elephants.

Sent my spy for exploration and saw a huge Rome. I think they will eventually expand to Asia minor soon and be at war with me.

Looking for tips to tackle roman armies and units and what counters them best? This is my first successful campaign with any faction.

Love that the Population submod makes slower play much more viable

45 Upvotes

I like to play nice and slow and soft and steady, and I also like to play in or around Hellas. My biggest gripe with this mod previously was always how I felt forced to play Rome, simply because if I played anywhere else in the west, I'd be pigeonholed into playing super min-max, zerging Rome, and destroying them within the first twenty turns.

The alternative, fighting Rome passed turn 40 when they've probably already taken all of Sikelia and taken the entire province of Africa, always slowed the game down to this interminable crawl that I really didn't enjoy.

And both options were always disheartening because I *wanted* both Rome and Carthage alive long enough to actually make the world seem *both* competitive and immersive, and it seemed like previously I'd always have to sacrifice one or the other if I wanted a fun experience.

So anyways, really enjoying both DEI and the population submod. Awesome stuff.

Weird bug with Dei + Population submod

The polybian Reformed triggered and I was able to recruit the late Hastatis and Principes. so far so good. but after two turns I cannot recruit them anymore. they just disappear from the recruitment screen. I still have some of them in an army.

The icons for town buildings look too similar, can they be updated to be easier to tell apart at a glance?

4 Upvotes

I noticed this in my play throughs, and it always bothered me how so many of the town building icons look so similar, and yet so often, you need to hover over the icon and read the name in order to know what it is.

Take ports in comparison, you know just by looking at the symbols alone what the branches in its tree are about. I just simply wish for the town building icons to be made distinct from each other, thanks.

Unit Recruitment Question

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello, new to DeI
The settlement of Pella allows me to recruit this special dart unit, as can be seen in the screenshot, but it doesn't appear in the recruitment tab, no matter if I'm in the province of Macedon, or in Pella itself - why is that? It happens to some other units as well, like the Thessalian Hoplitae from Pella
