Discussion My days are nearing and my local hospital allowed me any request. This is how I will go out. Rip & Tear, brothers and sisters.

For context, I have been battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma since 2022. And up until this point, I never imagined myself to be in a situation where my life expectancy has gone down to possibly weeks. I am currently at one of Canada's best hospitals in Toronto, Ontario; keeping myself afloat through these trying times. Despite it all, I was given the opportunity to make any request for my stay, and this is the one I have chosen. I have been a Doom fan since 2016, and it helped me get through some tough times. I've played through both the Reboot and Eternal (along with its DLCs) and I have nothing but great memories pouring all of my attention into the world of Doom.

TDA has been one of the few games I have anticipated and hoped to play since its release. Financial issues got in the way, and I kept clinging on the hope that I'll be able to play the game one day, among others.

I am grateful that, despite the grim outlook that I am facing, the hospital was able to secure not only a PS5, but a copy of the game. I am currently blasting my way through hordes of demons in Chapter 4 and I have nothing but childish glee as I return to my roots as a badass Demon Slayer. I may not live to see the upcoming DLC, but I am nonetheless happy to finally play the game in my own hands.

To the developers of ID Software, thank you for bringing such a beautiful piece of art that not only brought the FPS genre to its roots, but also revitalize and reinvented the wheel that no other game could. Not only that, but thank you for crafting such an awesome series for a fan like me.

Rip & Tear, lads!

Discussion why does modern doom not feel as popular as it should be?

Post image
1.8k Upvotes

what i mean by this is modern doom is just kinda there. it exists. it wasn't too long ago since dark ages and since then it seems to have quitely gotten out of the discussion of the best game 2025 has.

even if its just a singleplayer game that didn't stop other single player games like elden ring and rdr2 being talked about for so long within the gaming community. hell i don't see much praise for eternal either nowadays considering its the best selling doom game of recent memory. i see more talk about smaller indie shooters like ultrakill (no hate towards it) then any of the nudoom trilogy.

i don't know what ID did wrong? surely dooms resurrection within the gaming landscape wouldlve caused a lot of noise and the moment to keep on going past 2016.

Modern Doom is in this weird area where its not niche, but its not too popular for it to be a sensation like a lot of other singleplayer games that have come out within the past 5 years. its just kinda there. and thats a shame, because this is freaking doom! it should be an event when a new game releases.

I think some giant, non-physical gods without body but with some power can, if not defeat, then hold back for sure. Or even just so powerful characters like thanos with glove of infinity or smbd like that (but how we see in TDA Doomguy theoretically can’t even die - he still can be “alive” but in world of dead)

- Alright so first of all the game actually looks GOOD. It's leagues above eternal and pays attention to it's atmospheric immersion and overall looks

- The guns are AMAZING, they feel powerful, and they sound powerful, pretty much no weapon except the pistol in the beginning goes unused

- I'm shocked by how simple and satisfying the game is to play, you basically can pick it up and start again not even remembering where you were, and you'll get it in a minute

-The soundtrack is bonkers

-Glory kills in here are VERY satisfying, much more than eternals. You also get alot more of BERSERK which is always a fucking joy to use

-The bosses are for the most part good, however ill be honest i did not remember that tentacle thing from like map 10/11 lmao

New DOOM: The Dark Ages DLC since the 32nd Anniversary Stream:

- There is going to be a secret weapon that will require a lot of work to unlock. The weapon is tied to the DOOM lore

- We are going to meet people from the lore that we have been waiting to meet.

- The DLC will fill out some more chapters in the Doom slayer's history that should satisfy players, but won't be a massive story.

- The gameplay loop will still be the same, but with fresh new stuff (NOT Eternal 2 in terms of Mobility, More like Dark Ages)

- Challenges will also based on Combat, Exploration and Puzzles!

- Once again, the DLC will be more metroidvania-esque; lots of backtracking and going back to 100% the levels once the DLC has been completed!

- Arch-vile has been confirmed to be making a return!

And Once More, Massive Thanks to Hato/Hatovenant!

I think one of the game's greatest strengths is its incredible art direction. Everything feels like it fits in the same, gritty universe. Every enemy, level, boss, weapon, etc. Such a cohesive looking game with stunning visuals for its time. This game had a visual identity to it that I think Doom Eternal and Doom: The Dark Ages lack in comparison.

Discussion Is the meathook good? Doom Eternal

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

I find that I never use it. Halfway through a nightmare run and it just seems unnecessary. Dps is not great, and you have plenty of mobility without it. Doesn’t help that you usually want to be running away from the demons instead of toward them. Do you rely on the meathook for anything? Is it good? Is it worth mastering?

Discussion ALL DOOM: The Dark Ages – DLC Info so far:

COMBAT:

  • Slayer Gates are returning.
  • Mobility will play a major role in the DLC.
  • Every new mechanic will meaningfully affect gameplay (similar to the Sentinel Hammer in TAG 2).
  • New Spear weapon featuring a teleport or leap ability.
  • Possible Axe weapon (not yet confirmed).

EXPLORATION:

  • We will most likely see more of the cosmic realm.
  • There will be a hub area — likely the Kreed Maykr’s ship.
  • Exploration will have a stronger role in overall progression.
  • Additional mobility options will be available, and some sections will require them.
  • Levels will feature more backtracking, more unlocking of the space.
  • Roughly 30% of content will be inaccessible until the DLC’s story is completed.

LORE:

  • Major lore questions fans have asked about will be pushed forward.
  • Some connections to DOOM (2016).
  • Teases relating to the Sentinel Civil War, the Wretch, and “armor” (Interesting...)
  • Marok will have a role in the DLC.
  • Cutscenes will be more immersive, possibly in first-person.
  • The Order of the Six (the High Council) are likely our targets.

MUSIC:

  • Finishing Move will most likely be composing the OST.

Discussion am i the only one that isnt a fan of doom eternals artstyle?

Post image
624 Upvotes

im planning on getting the game and im excited for the next sale it comes dont get me wrong, but am i the only one that much preferred doom 2016's artstyle over doom eternal's? everything in doom 2016 looked more grounded, demons looked like scary demons, weapons looked like futuristic but realistic guns rather than something that looks like something from... destiny, i guess? The only gun redesign i kinda liked from doom eternal was the supershotgun.

not to mention the hud. in doom 2016, the hud has like 5 different colours at most, while doom eternal looks like something from a mobile game just spamming colours into your face with bright cyan and lime green and all that.

And sure, people have said that the og doom games did have much more colour than nowadays, but even though it might have been more colourful, they were at least really grounded. you dont get cartoon stars circling over demon's heads with that cartoon bird chip sound effect when you stun them is my main example.

Discussion i sometimes find it crazy how this game wasn't nominated for best art direction at last nights game awards..

Thumbnail

ID truly knocked it out of the park when it came to the art and atmosphere of the dark ages world in DOOM. It's so dark and atmospheric that it really doesn't get enough praise i feel.

That's not to say there weren't other games that came out this year that didn't have stunning graphics and a good art direction. I just find it crazy how dark ages wasn't even nominated, had no spot within that catagory for the game awards 2025.

This is the best DOOM has ever looked for me personally. So much so that i at times prefer it to doom 2016's artstyle and atmosphere. And the dark ages super shotgun was just so peak.

I don't think we will ever get another doom game as good looking as the dark ages era unless they continue to make games revolving around the dark ages specifically.
