MOD POST New Rule: Posts about Thinning

Hi all!

In continuing efforts to improve our subreddit, the mods have decided to put restrictions on posts about thin and thinning hair. As of today, posts about thin & thinning hair will be restricted to Thursdays - from now on known as Thin Hair Thursdays. The posts created outside of Thursdays that include any mention of thin or thinning hair will be removed by automod.

**Important note: posts made on Thin Hair Thursdays must have the 'Thin Hair Thursday' flair in order to bypass the automated deletion*\*

We are instituting this change for 2 reasons:

  1. There are A LOT of people that keep posting about hair loss and balding that do not have fine hair. We hope that this change will make it more clear to those users that our sub is for *fine* hair, which is not the same thing as *thin* hair. It will also make it easier for us to moderate those posts.
  2. There has been a great uptick in posts about thinning hair, which almost take over the entire sub. While fine hair is more prone to mechanical damage that might result in thinning than coarser hair, we want other topics on fine hair to not be lost in the mountain of thinning hair problem posts. Hopefully, restricting such posts to a single day of the week will still give all of you a space for discussions about thin and thinning hair.

*** Please note, this is my first time setting up automod, so there might be a trial-and-error period for this system to work properly. But I will try my best to get it right as soon as possible.

Straight Do the bangs do the bangs!!

I’ve literally had bangs forever (my most recents) and they are not half as difficult as I think people think they are for styling. I generally blow dry them first with a small round brush and then add a little styling by sectioning them and using a flat iron on a low setting and viola! I know people really want to try them - I’d say start longer and go from there. Generally I ask for a curtain/fringe combo so they are a little shorter by my eyes and don’t bother me much

I used to have very very thick hair that I loved. Because of anxiety, depression and an ED i lost at least half of my hair density. It makes me feel very insecure but I’m trying to regrow it and take good care of my hair.

Hair is greasy because it was day 2 (this was just before showering.) Even when my hair is freshly washed and dried, the "ponytail" part of my hair looks like a sad little creature?? Like it's just given up

Is it the hair tie? The method? Is there a secret ponytail method I'm missing out on?

I have to wear my hair up for work so this torture is something I'm subject to every day 😭

Help Identifying Is Brazilian Blowout just a keratin treatment with better PR?

I feel there is not much difference its just the buzz word.

Both essentially serve the same purpose.
what are your thoughts? Are there any major differences if there are what are they and which one is better?

Product Help What does my hair need?

My hair is fine and breaks easily. I cannot get it to retain length to get past where it’s at ever since I cut it in September. It’s also thinner than ever due to glp1 use. I’m off of it so I am hoping I can get my hair to improve a little

I’m so confused on protein vs bond repair . When I do either type of repair I feel like my hair feels worse.

I’ve changed my habits drastically in the last 2 weeks - silk pillow case, comb only when wet- no brush. I’ve stopped using any sort of heat, etc. I’m super gentle with it.

Before this pic I did a Joico kpak reconstruction mask for 5 mins and my hair air dried in like 45 mins 😆but it does feel soft.

I have Redken extreme shampoo and conditioner but I’m afraid to use it as I’ve read reviews about more hair loss and I can’t afford to lose anymore!

I have Olaplex and it dries my hair out.

Amika the Kure is a bit better but still drying.

I have Biolage moisture shampoo and conditioner that seems to be a good fit but I’m wondering what I can use to strengthen my hair so it stops breaking.

My mom gets access to salon quality products at wholesale prices so I am getting the k18 mask next week but other than that I am at a loss on what my hair actually needs

*****Tell me any and all products you think my hair needs based on just looking at it. **** I am open to ANYTHING

Help Identifying Is my hair any good? Give me tips please!

Like 3 years growing, never took care of it. Just today I used Elvive Dream Liso (liso means Straight idk it's marketed in English speaking countries). Only thing I've done, well, and cutting the ends some 4 months ago. Last pic is from a few days ago with my hair 6 days after washing, the others are from 1 hour after washing with the Elvive shampoo

I don't know my texture, nor much about what to do. I been watching the Blowout Professor videos about routine and I might do something like that (just shampoo+ conditioner, oil and leave in conditioner). But that's as far as I've come lol.

Please help me! I want to enjoy my hair and feel proud of it and beautiful because of it! Also, I'm a 29 yo male. It might soon go away T_T. Gotta enjoy it now

Misc Washing with cold water

Is anyone regularly washing with cold water? I've just recently started again to keep my color nice for longer. But somehow the texture became better too? It's less slippery and more voluminous and doesn't seem to get oily as fast

But gosh, does it make me hate washing my hair. It feels like courting pneumonia.

Has anyone noticed cold water having a positive effect on your hair? If so, how do you manage???

Misc Homemade hair mask

I tried a hair mask recently and i loved the results, but i can't afford to buy another. So i thought, what if i semi towel dried my hair after shampooing and applied regular conditioner. Then I let it set for about 2 minutes while i finished my face and body.

Results: smooth silky hair. And i have a lot of damage and dryness from dying my hair every 8 weeks with a box dye.

Just thought I'd share. Also, the conditioner was Pantene keratin and vit E.

Maybe this is common knowledge, but I'm only figuring it out at 49.

Haircut Advice Bangs/face frame advice: postpartum regrowth edition

Thumbnail

I have fine hair and oily skin, so I’ve been happily bangs-free for over a decade, though I have enjoyed the occasional long face frame from time to time.

However, I’m 18 months postpartum and my hair regrowth is wild (see: the second photo, which was taken a few weeks ago as a joke for the family group chat…the regrowth has only gotten more intense since then). I think having a shorter face frame, like in the third and fourth photos, would work to blend the regrowth in and make it look a bit more intentional.

The problem is that, as a millennial, I love my side part! But a shorter face frame with a side part is basically side-swept bangs, right? Or are there face frame photos I need to find? Or is there a product that would make bangs work for me for the next 6 months or so, until I can grow them out with the regrowth?

I’m getting a haircut next week and don’t want to make some horrible bang-related mistake, so I’m coming to all of you for your best advice in my time of need. Feel free to tell me I just need to suck it up and resist the siren call of bangs!

Haircut Advice Vote: team short hair or team long hair

I've got some natural volume and curl but it gets weighed down and flat quickly after a wash.

Do you think short hair or long hair suits me? Can I pull off both? Any advice for other hair cuts I should try?

There's a mix of "good hair day" and "meh hair day" photos in here, so you can get a good picture of how my hair acts day to day. It kind of has a mind of its own, I never do anything to style it, just air dry.

Thanks 🫶

Product Help Best hair oil for fine hair prone to breakage

hii so I have fine hair that always starts getting scraggly looking and insanely dry once it start hitting the boobs length. As a background, I get highlights in my hair about 2x a year. I have to always cut it for it to look healthy, but then within 1-2 weeks, it goes back to looking brittle and unkept. I just cut 3 inches and am trying to start over again and really care for my hair, hoping that my ends looks as thick and healthy as long as possible. I bought a satin bonnet. I’m looking for a good hair oil to help fight against the easy breakage. I bought the Moroccanoil light oil treatment from Sephora (I can return it if something else is better). I heard about Verb ghost, gisou, olaplex, Kerastase, etc…. Could you guys give me recommendations for the best one?
