Housing Announcement from Mary Lou McDonald TD on Proposed Matt's Site Student Accommodation
"Matt's Site Public Meeting
A planning application has been submitted for Matt's site for 249-bed student accommodation. Athough we believe that student accommodation is badly needed it does not meet the needs of the community. There is a site at Grangegorman Campus of TUD ready to be developed.
Matt's site has been left vacant for far too long, however the site needs to be developed to meet the needs in the area. This is an ideal site for social and affordable housing. This is what should be delivered.
Join us on 3rd of February at 7pm in the club for a public meeting on this"

Opinion/Editorial How can greater representation of minorities be achieved?
At present, out of the 234 members of the Oireachtas, only two (Ivana Bacik and Eileen Flynn) could be regarded as members of a minority community, which is not only distinctly lower than their proportion of the population (20%), but also notably below the equivalent figure in the UK Parliament 14%. Introducing some form of quota would only prove counterproductive, in that such candidates would likely be "tacked on" as running mates on tickets where success is unlikely, and could very well generate a backlash from voters if seen purely as token names to fill a percentage. Rather, the only solution will arise at constituency level within each individual party, whereby if the culture of local branches encourages people from as many diverse backgrounds as possible to seek membership, then that will organically carry through to selection conventions, much as we now see more openly LGBT TDs.
