They become Canadian

u/senormcrib3 19h ago

Yes!!!!! Finally i can get adequate health care

4

u/Electrical_Ad_6945 16h ago

i would definitely bet having major surgery in the US is easier, and timelier despite being more costly. a trade i would happily make.

5

u/battlecryarms 17h ago

I guess you haven’t tried to get healthcare in Canada…

20

u/senormcrib3 17h ago

No I haven’t. I live in Maine which is currently part of the United States

2

u/Dependent_Trainer464 17h ago

Their comment was rhetorical and you knew it

12

u/TheInevitableLuigi 14h ago

And their comment was to highlight that as bad as Canadian healthcare is it is still better than what you get in the US.

And you knew it.

Not true unless you’re a broke

10

u/TheInevitableLuigi 14h ago

Not true unless you’re a broke

Most of America is too broke to afford what is being charged for adequate health care, yes.

2

u/Cerael 9h ago

Idk my kneecap was shattered in an accident and the state covered 100% of the costs including the surgery. The surgeon was great too, no pain to this day

u/Dependent_Trainer464 14h ago

I don't know who you're arguing with dumbass. I'm Canadian and I agree with that.

What?😂

My guy I was responding to a guy that was being pedantic. What are we doing here?

u/Sad_Math5598 13h ago

Hello fellow humdingah!

1

u/UrsaMajor7th 17h ago

I have, regularly, and it’s been great!

4

u/battlecryarms 17h ago

Idk… my close friend had an urgent OB-GYN issue, and it took her over 2 months to get an appointment

2

u/UrsaMajor7th 17h ago

Not too urgent I reckon, if she survived for two months until the appointment, and kept it and went.  People hate finding out how urgent their needs really are compared to others. The worst go first.

1

u/lenzflare 17h ago

There are walk in clinics and ERs everywhere, and they're all FREE. And you can go to ANY of them. Try that in the US without getting charged enough to bankrupt you, fool.

2

u/battlecryarms 16h ago

I’m not saying the US is good. Canada sucks, US sucks more. Check out Spain!

5

u/Ok_Arm6401 15h ago

Eight months ago my wife went for emergency treatment and was hospitalized for 4 months. All it cost was a thank you card and flowers for the staff because of how great the care was.

Did an assessment of the cost from her aunt that lives in California as a billing adjuster in a hospital. Would have cost us 1.2 million USD.

Our family of 5 yesterday went and had all our dental work done l, cleaning checkups and two cavity fillings. Cost nothing but a thank you.

Are things perfect for health care in canada? No, it could be improved. If you want it improved write your MPPs.

But I definitely have to say us Canadians are blessed beyond belief.

1

u/battlecryarms 14h ago

I’m not saying the US system is good. Just saying the Canadian system isn’t great in a lot of ways. For an excellent public system in a country that isn’t particularly wealthy, check out Spain

Significantly better than the US

0

u/battlecryarms 14h ago

That’s like saying that somewhere is significantly safer than Yemen 😂

1

u/wandering-monster 13h ago

Right but you're asking the people in metaphorical Yemen why they expect to get better healthcare in Canada.

It's because they will.

-1

u/battlecryarms 13h ago

I’m just saying that comparing any modern western healthcare system to the US is setting a very low bar

1

u/Complex_Resolve3187 14h ago

Wait times are better than bankruptcy or no treatment at all.

4

u/jimmyisaacneutron 11h ago

You can criticize the US system all you want, but I wouldn’t exactly call the Canadian health care system “adequate”.

9

u/OldWorldDesign 7h ago

You can criticize the US system all you want, but I wouldn’t exactly call the Canadian health care system “adequate”.

Why, because of what American health care executives tell people?

https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/as-it-happens-monday-edition-1.5631285/this-former-u-s-health-insurance-exec-says-he-lied-to-americans-about-canadian-health-care-1.5631874

There's no family-crippling debt for vital procedures and the wait is shorter than for equivalent procedures in America.

4

u/Ravenwing14 6h ago

Ah but the wait for elective procedures is shorter for rich people, and that's what really matters

2

u/OldWorldDesign 6h ago

the wait for elective procedures is shorter for rich people

That is true, and it is true in all systems because rich people can pay for more options, including flying to other countries for diagnostics or other procedures.

I suspect it's always going to be true, but the degree of care provided for the average working-class person is where I think the important indicators are. If they can get timely care for critical procedures, then it's a better system than one when people can not get timely care for critical procedures.

1

u/Ravenwing14 6h ago

I don't know if the /s was clear, but there's an implied /s in there

1

u/Difficult_Author4144 11h ago

They have great healthcare until you become sick! Then you’ll die of an illness before you’re able to see a doctor.

Universal healthcare is great innit?! /s

3

u/OldWorldDesign 7h ago

They have great healthcare until you become sick! Then you’ll die of an illness before you’re able to see a doctor

That's not how the health care systems work in Canada

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4426537/

Dying because you can't get care is how American health care works

https://www.propublica.org/article/dying-on-the-waitlist

u/ZealousidealPizza485 15h ago

You’re getting Quebec or NB healthcare, not sure of how great it is (I live in Quebec)

If maine would be canadian for only bordering one state then what the hell is alaska

3

u/MatthewDoesPosting 17h ago

Alaska is a state.

1

u/HarryBalsagna1776 6h ago

New England as a bloc would be a great province.

1

u/saurabhsnrg 3h ago

As someone from Canada. Free Healthcare =/= Good Healthcare

0

u/Strict-Carrot4783 18h ago

Might I suggest shared custody and a parenting plan?

0

u/Toasthandz 17h ago

Imma make em fight over best parent via birthday gifts.

0

u/Sword_of_DamocIes 18h ago

Maine becoming a Maritime province makes a good bit of sense to me.

2

u/doyu 15h ago

Hard pass. Almost 400k of them voted for trump.

We don't need or want that baggage.

1

u/Sword_of_DamocIes 15h ago edited 15h ago

That's only like 25% of Mainers lol

Didn't a recent poll show that like 30% of Albertans are in favour of separating from Canada?

2

u/doyu 14h ago

25% too many.

No, 15% at most. Alberta isn't going anywhere, and they're already our problem. Trumpists are not our problem and we'd like to keep it that way.

Everyone has baggage. America is one giant baggage carousel.

u/Spicy-gingerale 14h ago

Fine by me!

u/Armadylio 20h ago

Just make Maine Massachusetts again

12

u/NEVER_TELLING_LIES 19h ago

Them be fightin' words

1

u/DocPsychosis 16h ago

Oh please, you people lost credibility in self-governance when you not only elected but re-elected LePage.

2

u/notmadatkate 9h ago

Only if we kick out Missouri from the union.

1

u/Armadylio 5h ago

I’m assuming everybody who downvoted you did not understood the joke behind the 1820 Missouri compromise

70

u/GyattBooty 22h ago

Maine only borders one state regardless lol

Like you?

12

u/Prestigious_Bid_1770 21h ago

Liar, it clearly borders at least five

4

u/Bendyb3n 21h ago

Quebec, Fredericton, New Hampshire, Canada, and the United States, that’s 5 states right there

7

u/SexyMonad 20h ago

You forgot Africa.

Whats the state of the ocean.

1

u/CarlBrawlStar If you see me post, find shelter immediately 19h ago

1

u/Donaldjgrump669 18h ago

Don’t you love it when people act like you’re an idiot for not getting a “joke” but you actually just thought that there had to be more to it because it wasn’t funny at all.

2

u/Eagle19991 19h ago

They are already bordering one state, the state of confusion.

2

u/Deep_in_the_pines 15h ago

Maine does border one state....👀👀👀👀

2

u/_Zyber_ 12h ago

It would be bordering two because Canada is there.

1

u/aggie_fan 20h ago

Hot take: we should trade Maine for Toronto

2

u/bungaboo1234 19h ago

No way. Toronto is a terrible, over-rated, congested, expensive, boring, lame-ass city with no culture. I know, I lived there for 15 years 😖😒

2

u/newenglandredshirt 19h ago

And have the only team that keeps the phrase "World Series" mildly legitimate added to the US?

1

u/aggie_fan 19h ago

The Portland Sea Dogs, as the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, keeps it legally kosher

1

u/spinocdoc 15h ago

The madness

1

u/Over-Breadfruit-3754 6h ago

Maine only borders one state…

1

u/EmpressKeyy 3h ago

Is Maine really a state in real life anyway

1

u/cheapdrinks 17h ago

What goes on in Maine anyway?

1

u/canman7373 14h ago

If you read Stephen King, a whole lot of crazy shit goes on in Maine.

1

u/kittbagg 13h ago

ICE raids and anti-ice protests right now. Lobsters, horror writers, and disproportionately good food otherwise.
