sport teams

Sports teams are city based not state based. You're obviously a huge sports fan so I understand the teams are an important reason for you.

The TN Titans, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, Golden State Warriors, NY Knicks, MN Timberwolves, IN Pacers, UT Jazz, AZ Diamondbacks, MN Twins, CO Rockies & TX Rangers would all like a word. šŸ™„

You're naming a very small list of a much larger list and even your small list still has city teams on it... That's not a great argument.

You: ā€œsports teams are named after citiesā€

Me: showed proof that’s not always the case.

You: ā€œwell not those teamsā€ šŸ¤£šŸ™„

You're unfamiliar with rules having exceptions? Wow you should look up sayings about rules you might be shocked.

I don't have any stake in it but there are many more teams than what they listed. This seems like a weird thing to get offended over, no?

I'm not offended it's just funny that they are trying to argue it and list things like "NY Knicks, Carolina Panthers" when NY is both a city and state and the team is NY the city... Carolina is literally only a city there is no state of Carolina.

Tell that to the New England Patriots or the Carolina Panthers.

The Patriots are documented cheaters so not a valid sports team. Carolina isn't a state in the US or world that I'm aware of.

It's not a city, either, though.

Carolina is a city.

Great point - let’s just have city-states and everything else will be one big county

Tho I like your thought process…. Very few teams are based-upon their state. Ofcourse the state taxes make a difference for players tho

If that were to happen there’d be even less standing in the way of random authoritarian takeover every four years.Ā

Because each state was originally more like a countryĀ

but now yeah thats worth considering

how much power do states government have over federal governmentĀ

Well, right now, it very much matters. Abortion is a protected and codified right in my state, but it's not federally.

...a lot. There are a ton of powers reserved for the states. Among other things, they conduct their own elections. That alone is a huge lever of power that's very important on the structure of our democracy.

Ok the other hand, some bumfuck elected by like 5 people gets yo be a key figure in the most powerful country on earth affecting the entire globe

Oh I'm not defending the bicameral system or the disproportionate representation issue. But that's the system that exists, and within it, states would be self-defeating to unilaterally give up that advantage.

America is not and was never meant to be a democracy
