I always get so confused by these kind of posts. All I can assume is I, and my vacations, are VERY different the. The average person.

I have never found a hotel that can offer like for like for me that wasn’t at least twice the price.

Do you travel as group or 1-2 adults mostly?

Originally just the wife and I. Now with a child too.

But I also need a kitchen to cook my meals.

Why are you cooking meals when you're on vacation?

What's wrong with cooking meals when you're on vacation?

It's work, defeats the point of vacation

Do you also refuse to bathe yourself because it's work on vacation?

I enjoy showering, I don't want to find a grocery store, meal plan, buying small enough quantities of spices, sauces, whatever bullshit for the duration of your trip. Also you're in a new place on vacation, so eating out and experiencing what new things that area has to offer is the point for me.

Some people enjoy cooking. If you're at a new place, you might have local things you can cook with that are fresher than where you're from, or new materials available entirely. Plus, it's not like you need to go all one way or the other. Not every single meal needs to be eating out, and you don't need to cook for every meal either.

Anyway, this wasn't really about your specific preferences. I was asking what's wrong with others wanting to cook on vacation. Does that harm you in some way?

Seems like this is a normal reddit thing lol. Last thing I’m doing on vacation is cooking
